Bug or intentional design?
We all know what this game is like at this point, and a lot has already been said about what doesn’t work well.
Today I decided to give it another try and played the IIHF World Championship tournament, but once again I was disappointed — I’ve honestly lost count of how many times in NHL 26.
Can someone explain the logical reason why, after finishing and winning the tournament, there’s no trophy celebration? The players jump on the ice, celebrate, throw their sticks, shake hands with the opponent — and that’s it. No cup lifting, no proper celebration scene.
Even NHL 25 didn’t have it. Were the developers really not able to at least reuse the animation from NHL 24? If the game aims for realism (even though it’s far from perfect), the cutscenes and transitions could at least feel more authentic.
Another issue that’s been around for years — at tournaments, the national anthem plays at the beginning of the game. In real life, it’s played after the game for the winning team. That small detail really affects the overall experience.
It’s just another mode that feels unnecessary and lacks excitement. I think I’ve tried all of them now. I’m done with NHL 26 for the time being.
It’s unfortunate — we paid full price for what feels more like an incomplete add-on than a full game.
