Petition the NHL to cancel the exclusivity contract they have with EA.
Complaining to EA doesn't get anywhere but if we complain to the NHL enough they'll start looking into what's going on and realize their brand is being hurt.
The NHL thinks putting their games behind 6 or 7 paywalls is good for their sport. They. do. Not. Care.
Someone would have to beat EA's money. That is what buys the license.
EA doesn't have exclusive rights anyone can make a hockey game ,unfortunately no one wants to make one ,that's why we get whatever nhl 26 is, but it surely isn't hockey
Sure, you can make a generic hockey game. That was tried a few times in the 90's but people want to play with their team and the actual teammates. I know they're people around here old enough to remember 2k's NHL. It was great and it made EA compete. Instead of competing they just bought the exclusive rights. That was the beginning of us consumers getting screwed.
