Dedicated Server vs peer to peer

Hi,

I would like to know if HUT or online versus is on dedicated server or peer to peer, cause for some reason when i play HUT on a 10ms ping the gameplay feels very heavy and delayed compared to online versus on a 70ms ping.  It feels more responsive on online versus. Can someone explain please ?

You dont have that in online versus matches with higher ping.

The reason HUT can feel "heavier" despite lower ping is because on a dedicated server, your inputs have to travel to the server, get processed into the authoritative game state, and then that state gets sent back to you before anything is rendered. Even at 10ms, you're waiting on that full round trip plus server side tick processing.

In OVP which is P2P, your local console has much more direct influence over what you see and your inputs can be applied locally and reconciled with your opponent almost simultaneously. That's why 70ms P2P can actually feel more responsive because you're getting immediate local feedback rather than waiting on a server to confirm every action.

Dedicated servers are better for fairness and consistency (no host advantage, no connection drops killing the game), but the input feel trade-off is real.

  • But is it true cause of the delay input lag in hut despite the low ping. You dont have that in online versus matches with higher ping.

  • HUT has been on dedicated servers for a few years now.  Versus is still played on direct peer to peer connections.
