If goalies can make that across-the-crease move faster than a hard pass, then there should be an opening on the short side since the goalie would need to already be moving to anticipate the backdoor play. Any goalie who makes that play would need to be reading "pass" the whole way, which should open up the short side for the shooter.
It would be nice if EA built in that detail instead of allowing goalies to close off the short side AND cross the crease at the speed of light to save tap-in goals. - RobHockey6 months agoSeasoned Vanguard
I've noticed this as well the goalies 9 times out of 10 save that cross crease pass.
I also think EA needs to tone down the silly diving AI on cross crease passes; they seem to dive on just about every cross-crease pass lol.

I’m a playmaking RW on the fourth line and I agree that feeding the slot, etc, doesn’t work too often. I’ve had a lot better luck by passing it back to the d and letting them blast away. They actually shoot this year which is actually a big improvement imo. Maybe it’s because I’m playing with linemates who aren’t very skilled, but letting them create traffic in the low slot while the d fire away has been productive.

Agreed. My linemates dive (mostly for shots that could easily be made without diving) maybe 4 or 5 times a game. It happens so often that it ruins the effect completely. I mean, in reality, you see crazy diving goals maybe a couple times a season across the league. And I've never seen a player lay out a belly flop for a tap in goal for no reason.

And it goes back to the ai. My linemates don’t even try to get open most of the time. So much for Hockey ICE-Q. They’ll skate behind the opposing defenders relative to you instead of trying to get ice position so they’re in front. Another option would be for them to adjust their speed in order to create a passing lane but they won’t do that.
i noticed this last year. Coach wants you to feed the slot, as he should, but why? - Yossarian151996 months agoRising Traveler
It's hit or miss for me. I definitely have to be the one who slows down or speeds up to create a passing lane (with or without the puck). My linemates aren't clever. Totally agree on body position. Watching a 95 overall goal scorer just stand behind a defenseman who clearly has him covered is brutal.
I'd also be happy if the defencemen didn't decide to play forward when I try to help them win a board battle in our zone. If I dip below the faceoff dot to either cover an attacker or be available for an outlet pass, one of my defenceman peels off up ice. Like, no dude, you still need to play D.
I get that they're programmed to cover the open man, but come on. I basically gave up trying to help out my D because I was sick of seeing stay at home defencemen trying to lead the rush after I bailed them out. - zuperdry106 months agoSeasoned Traveler
Jamie Oleksiak will forever give me nightmares, trade deadline acquisition, never seen an AI Dman look off the breakout pass as much as he did in the playoffs. Thankfully we didn’t resign him, probably forfeited 20-30+ odd man rushes during the playoffs because he refused to pass the puck and skated it in every time
