Warning: further insanity in terms of pack descriptions/odds vs pricing
I decided to buy a couple of packs today. End of the year, I'm going to have some free time, days off... Let's have some fun with the team, right?
So I did... Photo of odds for pack I choose are attached below.
At no point did it occur to me that with an advertised 55% chance of an 86, (and no visible mention that there could be a 3 level gap below 86 before seeing a card at any level), I could ever possibly get 0 86s, 0 85s and 0 84s.
But that is exactly what happened. 50 dollar pack (which I am fine with btw)...
Total composition of pack:
1 83
2 80s
27 Sub 80s.
I was so shocked that I consciously made the decision to buy another. Just to see how bad my luck was. Apparently not overly bad.
Another $50 in, the second pack was effectively the same...
2 83s
2 80s
26 Sub 80s
It wasn't until after opening the second pack that I realized there was a scroll bar to the right to see the full table of odds (bottom odds were hidden off screen...That's how embarrassing these outcomes are, it looks like they have started to hide them below the visible bottom border of the window lol rather than display them in full, as if the window is too crowded!).
Upon this realization, I found that the only guarantee was 100% chance of an 82 plus. For 50 dollars.
That said, there was also an 86% chance to get an 84 plus, which I failed to do on two consecutive packs.
If my math is correct, and I know some math... 😂 I should probably go out and buy a lottery ticket.
The chance of not pulling an 84 in either pack appears to be less than 2%, which of course happened to me on the only two packs that I bought for 100 dollars. This obviously begs the question: if I buy a bunch more packs (which I almost want to do just to prove a point) how many packs will I get through before I see an actual 84 or 85.
If I were to do one more:
That would be $150 spent and assuming I did not pull the 84 plus tier which claims to have an 86% win rate, then I would have just achieved something with a 99.7% chance of not happening.
And yet with EA and these packs, the odds are almost always spitefully lower than what is indicated on the cover page whether you buy one pack two packs or 20 packs.
Today I missed that there was a scroll bar on the side of the pack odds and that the only guaranteed 100% card was an 82 plus. For $50 this seems like an absurd concept to me, but I share this as a public service message only so that others perhaps do not try to have a little fun and get made to look and feel foolish this holiday season.
Regards to the player base and happy holidays!
