Salary formula

It has always been a tricky thing to get right in Franchise Mode in the past, and after this summer it's bound to get harder.

There are a couple of complicated situations going on currently, with Cutter Gauthier and Adam Fantilli, just on top of my head.

I'm playing as Columbus currently and therefore Fantilli's is the one I noticed first. After Leo Carlsson signed for $18m, Bedard for $15m, it's safe to say he don't want to be too far behind. Yet, in the game he asks for 1 year at $3.2m (or 7-ish million for 7 years). Not knowing what he will eventually sign for, I'm fairly sure we're talking double-digits, depending on the term.

I also saw that Cutter Gauthier had signed for something around $6.7m, which is probably less than half of what he will accept in the end. And I saw that he is available to sign as an RFA in Free Agents too, which he shouldn't be, because he's not eligible to sign an offer sheet.

There needs to be some adjustment to the salaries players ask for. The game should be able to do what the agents do and look at comparable talents. It is a bit confusing now when the cap has made a big jump, and the contracts vary A LOT. I'm not sure what the current system base it's numbers on, but to look at percentage of the cap should at least give more accurate numbers than these.

Even without the contract development this summer, both of these examples feels way too low.

    Agreed, good point, and then an 84 OVR Med/Low top 6 defenseman asks for 7-8 Million a year. Also from what we have seen this summer with Larkin, Hellebuyck and Werenski with asking for a trade, i would want other options to handle the NTC-clauses. For example, in this game there is no way that Larkin gets moved, or Hellebuyck, you should be able to make an call about an player despite having an NTC.

    Yes, I've thought about that too. It needs to be possible to inquire about a player with such a clause. Still no gurantee he's interested, but given that these situations become more and more common, it's boring when the only way to effect the situation in game is to play as one of the teams that has the player, and find a way to trade them somewhere for something. If you want to trade for them, the only solution is to edit and remove the NMC/NTC from the first year of the contract before starting the franchise. This is what I will use on these players where it's a matter of when, not if they're traded. Not ideal, but better than having them locked for years to a team they have already announced they want to leave.

    On another note, in the best of worlds (I don't expect this, but anyway) I wish there was a way to add to a player if the have indicated that this is their last year/will play out their contract. Sometimes in the game they continue playing until they're 45, which is very unusual as it is, but particularly annoying if it's a player has announced that season will be his last and from season 2 he should be out of the game, but instead he keeps playing for x more seasons.

    Right now you kind of have to make a decision, if you want to have the player in the game for the first season and then risk him staying for another 5, or remove him from the game right away, to make sure it will be correct from season 2 onwards. Personally I always lean towards option 2, even if I don't like it.

    I totally agree, i just made an post about this, right now i have 45 year old ovechkin scoring 50 goals a year, totally unrealistic. I made him 84 medium top 6 to start the season but he refuses to retire.
