How do I load my custom AHL team as the affiliate to my custom NHL team?

I created two teams. One for NHL and one for AHL.

For some reason, my NHL team is affiliated with the old outdated version of the AHL team. I have since edited it in the Creation Zone to improve it for a new Franchise run.  However, I can not figure out how to load the updated version.  The game only sees the old version (old name, old logo, old details, etc).   I see the updated team in the Creation Zone. 

What is going on?  How do I do this? How do I update the AHL team? How do I associate it with the NHL team?

This is so frustrating.  I've dug through the Creation Zone, tried using CUSTOM rosters when starting the new Franchise run, and scoured youtube, reddit, and here. Nothing.

    Sadly, you cant choose a created one for the affiliate when you do a Franchise Mode.

    I would love to be able to have it done like you have done, you could really prepare a fun save with an NHL and a AHL team done like you want to have it.

    Its something that EA could improve with better customization options. But they usually taked decisions like they never test play their Offline modes before releasing the game....

    Yes you can, but only through custom league when in the menu to rename the conference, division, you can L2. From NhL to AHL team and substitute in both league
