Account Disabled - Can't Access Hotmail, Cust. Serv. Wanted IP add + misc. info

Hey all,

First time poster here, and I do thank you for your time regarding any future responses.

So, I learned through a chat with Customer Service tonight that I somehow have two EA Accounts. One being my current email address (which isn't new to the EA realm, it was created in 2011, as a site note, and am able to perfectly access it)... but ~somehow~ my Xbox and/or PlayStation account is linked to an old hotmail address that I can no longer access (and hotmail isn't a thing anymore, to boot!).

Upon my chat with Customer Service, the rep wanted some of the following: 😇 IP Address, (b) Last 4 of my credit card (which is different than from 2011), (c) My address (which is different than from 2011), and lastly, but not limited to, (d) two EA purchases with dates (this latter point is an impossibility for me to answer!)

Nevertheless, I did not feel comfortable sharing my IP address with the rep, and tried to explain even if I gave it, the other information that was needed I could not give (as I surely do not have the same credit card from 2011... and who knows, this hotmail EA account could be from the late 2000s!!!)I am wondering if any of you tech-folks would have shared the IP address. The credit card info that I surely could not know from a decade-plus ago, along with purchase dates of EA-related titles, just seems so... odd to me, although I understand if that's a subjective feeling.

Be that you would have shared it or not... I am wondering how you would go about this situation. It seems like the strangest of standards to make an account update. Even World of Warcraft has a more sensible albeit strict (yet necessary) way to validate who are.

Once again, thank you for your time. I only wish we were able to chat with Customer Service in an easier manner, and eliminate this what seems to be popular-enough issue with old accounts/emails we can no longer access.

Hey @pantomime725 for issues such as this you will need to speak with one of our phone or chat support advisers who will be able to advise you further.

If our team is requesting info so as to verify that you are the account owner then I would recommend sharing the info with them.

If they cannot verify that you are the account owner then they cannot grant you access to an account or make changes to it.

You can contact our live support at help.ea.com.

To  speak with a chat adviser:

    Click on your product Origin

    Then select 'PC

    Manage my Account'

    Can't log in

Finally, you can choose to begin a chat or request a call back.

  • Hi @EA_Darko. What is the phone number that I can call?

I have spoken to numerous friends who are more in-tune with cyber security and IT, and all said to never give out your IP Address - since it's basically a back door to get your information.

I found it VERY strange and suspicious that the Customer Service rep wanted the last-four digits of my credit card, from about 10 years ago... plus purchase dates of two EA titles? How could I have known this. Hotmail hasn't been an email since what, 2012? I haven't used Hotmail for years prior to that! Nevertheless, once I questioned the last-four of the credit card (stating how could I remotely know this, along with the two EA titles...) he stated something along the lines of "Oh okay, you don't need to give the credit card numbers."

Nevertheless, I would appreciate a phone number to call, to speak to someone in upper management in regards to solving this problem in which I don't have access to the hotmail, but clearly use a Gmail associated with the same gamertag that I've always had... and to not give out my IP address.

Hey @pantomime725 there is no danger to sharing your IP when requested by a representative of EA. If you have a router then even if some bad people get your IP address it won't do them much good as modern routers have all kinds of protection and safe guards in place to stop someone accessing your system simply through your IP.

If you have an old account and do not know the account details or have access to the email then our team will need to verify that you are the account owner. They will ask you a variety of questions to prove that you are the account owner, if you are unable to supply enough information to verify that you are the account owner then they will be unable to make changes or grant you access to the account.

The only team who can assist you is our live support team who you can contact our live support at help.ea.com.

Hey @pantomime725 I'm not sure how this is related to your issue. If our live support is asking for your IP then all they are using it is for verification purposes and no other reason. If you do not wish to share that info with our team then that is okay, but if you cannot verify that you are the account owner then our team will be unable to assist you in gaining access to the account.

If you wish to know more about the numerous protections available then you can take a look at the info shared by the main router manufactures, it includes things like a built in firewall, stronger encryption, regular patching of issues, and updating of software and most have a feature to toggle on or off remote access.
