NFS Heat party chat issues (can't hear partymates)

I'm guessing this might be a cross-play thing? I play on PC and my friend on PS4, we've had no problem entering into a party in NFS Heat and talking to each other through headsets, yet the last time we logged in, I couldn't hear him on the other side.

In fact, my computer was properly registering my input and output, and the game was as well (the little speaker would light up when I spoke, and my friend could hear me.  Even the chat-to-text feature was working when he would speak, it would dictate what he said on my screen, but I couldn't hear his voice).  I could hear the game audio just fine as well, everything but his voice.

Even weirder, the first time we logged in, I DID hear him, but he was coming out of a speaker connected to my monitor, even while ALL OTHER AUDIO was coming through my headphones, and the PC has the headphones selected as output.. somehow, his voice still came through a speaker that shouldn't even have been active.

Any ideas?

  • @EA_Darko I think you're right about that.  I'm a novice at PC systems but I found the advanced sound settings that had my headphones listed as the default playback for game audio and my monitor speakers as default for communication audio, and I think that's why it was splitting.  I adjusted the settings so that ALL audio defaults to my headphones and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Right-click the speaker icon in the tray > speaker setup > advanced setup.  Then I checked all 4 tabs (playback, recording, sounds, and communications) to make sure I had the proper devices listed as defaults.
