I realize that this is a reply on a old post,, but the problem is the same.
I have a sims 4 game threw steam,, and play it on a tower, and a laptop when Im
on the road.
BOTH some how stopped working for the same " could not connect to the internet..."
reason .
Ive tried EVERY answer available on this site, other than to reload the OS ( not going there.. )
and still get the same error. It offers the "down load the latest version",, so being a problem solver,,
I used a bit of common seance. latest not working,, so go older
Downloaded a older version, deleted the origin folder off my HD,, and installed "origin 10-5-78.exe"
, signed into origin when prompted ,, and was able to play the game fine.( browser open, still signed into the origin site. )
Tried the next day, it opened with the "downloading the latest.." screen ( normal )
and got the same error again.
YES,, I did try the same system , deleting the origin folder , and installing the latest origin file, signing into the
origin web site,, only to run into the same problem.
Hmmmm.

If the ERROR Message was clearly mention that ORIGIN WEB Browser this is unable to connect? Then all of us we would have a clue of the actual problem.
Indeed there is no documentation of how to get latest Internet certificates for your WEB browser, and it appears now that ORIGIN Web browser this uses parts of the Microsoft Internet explorer software (engine).
I have Microsoft training as Server administrator for twenty years, and now I am using Win7 PRO Retail because W10 sucks big time.
By the use of gpedit.msc (Local group policy Editor) I had disabled automatic certificates update) because I wanted less possible active services running at my system and more free RAM.
Navigate to the following section:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings.
Now check if .. Automatic Root certificate’s update is set to .. Not configured, if is set as enabled? Then change it back to Not configured.
Now two steps for you to do for WINDOWS all versions.
Note: Another side effect I noticed was before this FIX some website would appear like TEXT instead of redenering with proper graphics i.e. WCCFTECH had issues then this it worked and so did ORIGIN
Hi, I’ve continually had issues with Origin connecting even after doing all the steps you told the other user (trying to play FIFA 22 but origin just will not let me in no matter what I try, I’ve disabled my firewall and everything, times match, connection on my end is fine)
Is there any way to boot up PC FIFA without having to deal with origin, or any way to make sure it never gives me that error again?
