Origin Won't Install (Windows 11)

Hi! So I've been trying to open The Sims 4/Origin for a couple hours now, with no luck. It just... wouldn't do anything when I double-clicked or right-click>open, or run as administrator. I uninstalled Origin and now have been trying to re-install it, with still no luck. I click on the .exe file and the most that happens is the "Do you want to allow this to make changes to your computer?" and then after clicking Yes,  the black-rimmed "Origin" window pops up, but remains blank white. I've installed the new VC++ files as mentioned, with no further progress. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also I've attached the DxDiag file.

Editing to also add that there is no error message or anything that pops up, and that I've run the compatibility troubleshooter a few times with no success.

  • @hwangminhyun  What antivirus do you use?  It's possible that Origin is being blocked from opening; this is unusual but is much more common for Sims 4.  For most programs, it's enough to set exceptions for Origin.exe and TS4_x64.exe, but some have additional settings that can get in the way.

    If you don't use a third-party antivirus, please do a clean uninstall of Origin:

    • Download Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine) from here.
    • Quit Origin if it's still open, then right-click on the Task Bar and open the Task Manager.  Scroll through looking for Origin entries.  If you find any, click on them and End Task.
    • Next, clear Origin's cache.
    • Launch Revo and uninstall Origin, and when it's uninstalled, select "Moderate" again and Scan.
    • If Revo finds any remaining registry entries, select all, delete, and click Next.
    • Revo will display "Remaining Data and Folders.  Select all of them except for the "Origin Games" folder, if it appears.  (This is where Origin games are installed by default.)  Delete the rest.
    • Close Revo, and restart your computer.

    Next, download the full Origin installer and run it.  Here's the direct download link:

    http://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe

    Be sure to run both the installer and Origin itself as an admin: right-click on each and select "Run as Administrator."  When it's reinstalled, if it installs, please try running Sims 4 as an admin as well.

    @puzzlezaddict Hi,

    Thanks for your reply!

    I'm using Avast antivirus (currently I have the free version, as I haven't upgraded to premium again yet lol).

    I set some exceptions for the Origin installer/setup exe files.

    I ended all the origin processes/tasks and cleared the cache.

    I got Revo Uninstaller, there was no Origin entry on it though. I didn't find any 'Moderate' option though but I tried to do the scans on the left-hand sidebar.

    I restarted.

    After that, I ran the OriginSetup as administrator and it actually popped up! The installer window loaded and it showed that it was installing... but after several hours it never moved past that, just kept animating the loading bar and the side images cycling through. I closed it, ended the task , and tried again, but again it didn't even open at all.

    If there's anything else/different I can do let me know! thank you again for your help

    @hwangminhyun  Try using another tool, for example Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine), to remove all traces of Origin from your computer.  Then download the full Origin installer again, except this time, create a new folder on your computer, and not one within Program Files (x86) or Documents, and choose to install Origin into that folder.

    If that doesn't help, repeat the above, except disable Avast before installing Origin.  As long as you don't do anything else, your computer should be safe, and you can reenable Avast and set the appropriate exceptions once Origin is working.

    @puzzlezaddict

    I tried all of these, but each time it gets to where it looks like it's installing, but it doesn't seem to make any progress even after a long time, even with Avast disabled. The Revo and CCleaner installations have been working fine, so I'm not sure what the deal is here with Origin ☹️

    @puzzlezaddict WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA thank you so much!!! it looks like it worked, installing from the other account. I've signed into origin and it's updating my Sims game. I think it will work!! Thanks again, I really appreciate it!!
