Re: I have SSD C: & HDD D: | What Location to Move 1. ORIGIN and 2. SIMS 4 to?

@Sugarhigh246  It looks like Origin is already going to install Sims 4 to D, in the Origin Games folder, which is what you want.  Your mods and cc are stored elsewhere though: inside your Sims 4 game folder in Documents\Electronic Arts.  This folder will always be in Documents, wherever Documents is stored on your computer.  If you want to move it, the easiest and safest way is to move all of Documents to your D drive.  Here's how:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/74952-move-location-documents-folder-windows-10-a.html

Depending on how much free storage you have on C though, this may not be necessary.  Some people find that their Sims 4 game folder only takes up a few GB of space, or they move extra saves, screenshots, etc. to a backup on a secondary drive while keeping their current content inside Documents on C.  Other people have 10 GB or more of custom content and need to move everything to D.  It's your call which approach will work best for you.

P.S.  The "legacy game installers" entry in your first screenshot doesn't matter much unless you plan to keep the installers for games after you've downloaded them.  In the same screenshot, you can see that the option to keep those installers is off.

    Thank you.

I forgot to state that I attempted moving documents to D before this discussion. I think I did it wrong. Its contents are the same of D as if I make a copy of D then replaced Documents with the copy.

    I attached a screen capture.

The custom content takes up a huge amount of space, near 80GB. So I have to do this.

@Sugarhigh246  The contents of D and HDD ( D ) in your screenshot are the same because they're the same location.  Your computer recognizes either address as valid and takes you to the root folder of the HDD.

To move Documents, you don't need to copy anything; just follow the instructions in the tenforums link to create the new folder and redirect Documents to store files there.

I followed the instructions but get the error attached. Maybe I should reinstall the Windows OS and follow the steps from scratch. I thank you so much your help and information you have shared. I am really appreciative.

Another person encountered a similar issue / same error:

    answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-files/cant-redirect-a-parent-into-a-child-the-specified/33d55bc3-94bc-497e-ab14-e67651eafd16

the first map i tried to move was desktop
but after moving it to D: i noticed that it was not like expected
the map did indeed move but it moves over the location that you choose
so now my drive D: is my desktop map from libraries very strange...
i tried to move it back, but as expected i got this error:

"can't redirect a parent into a child. the specified path is invalid. "
