Origin won't take my spore key

Hi, I bought spore a long time ago (like near launch) before Origin even existed I'm pretty sure. Well, my laptop doesn't have a disc drive so I decided to try to download it though the origin client using the CD key. When I typed it in, it realized that it was a spore key and I chose the default option to install Spore and also gain access to online stuff etc. When I clicked install it said it can't activate through the client and to activate it using help.ea.com. I can't seem to find where to activate it through the site. Is there any way that I can get this game on my laptop? Thanks in advance.
