Maxis is dead, and no way is EA going to make a good successor. The best thing that can happen is if they patch up the game we already have.
EA is only interest to create easy money making games, like nhl, fifa, nfs, sw and sims. Creating Spore 2 is too big risk to take.
There are people not related to EA Games trying to make a game based on Spore.
It's called Thrive, It is open-source and currently the team is making the microbe/cell stage

well i mean it wouldn't be that easy to just pick it up, even though maxis is no longer EA would have to transfer data and spend tons of money getting it ready again. there really isnt a point in picking it up again. but i mean if you think its that easy why dont you pick it up? try to at least
I know these are spin-offs, but there was 2 other spore games.
Darkspore, which was an MMO that got shutdown, like Need for Speed World. - http://darkspore.com/

If you like the look of darkspore, I highly recommend downloading and installing the Spore mod, "Dark Injection" which gives the UI a darkspore style, and adds a ton of Darkspore parts to the creature creator.

Thanks for your wonderful feedback and enthusiasm for this game. Unfortunately I must tell you there will be no successor.
The developer studio was closed many years ago, Maxis Studio is no longer available for Spore and therefore there will be no sequel.
