Spore black screens then minimized on startup

I recently decided to blow the dust off of my old spore dvd-rom and play it again. The installation went like normal, and when i ran the game instead of running it went to a black screen, then minimized on my desktop like any other minimized program. However, when i try to make it full screen again, it does the same. I have tried a lot, from reinstalling, updating my graphics card drivers, to trying to run the game in safe mode or using the command line. Any idea's on what the problem may be?
