I know this thread is old, but you are correct. There is a relatively simple solution however.
The default directory for Galactic Adventures is as followed: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Spore\SPORE Galactic Adventures\SporebinEP1
(Likewise if you saved it on a different hard-drive, change the first letter to the one you saved it on)
From there on, you want to click 'SporeApp'. This will load Galactic Adventures.
EA should get this patched up as soon as possible; It is a major oversight in their application.
it just gives me an error saying EA needs to update because it tries to run it through EA
Unfortunately this is a separate issue that everyone on the EA App is experiencing. There is no official workaround. However, you can find third party solutions such as the EA App to Origin conversion, or the Spore ModAPI.
