Spore not working on windows 10 through EA-PLAY through Steam

Hi, Just got the EA pack through steam because I noticed they had SPORE listed as one of the games; game runs a fine for the first stage (cell stage) but upon starting the creature stage, the graphics fail to keep up; when I alt-tab into the game it shows a still-shot of the current game state and I can hear the sound working fine but screen doesn't update when I perform actions, idle etc.

I am running this game through steam, new laptop, windows 10; I have tried changing my graphics settings, running steam in compatibility mode, re-installing, verifying files are not corrupt, etc.

Is there a known work-around for this particular issue, and/or course of action I can take to resolve it?

Thanks,

~Malcolm

  • Sorry to hear you're experiencing these problems with Spore. While I can't guarantee a solution, I can suggest some steps that may help resolve this issue.

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated drivers are often the cause of such issues. If you haven't already done this, update your graphics card drivers to the latest version.

    2. Running in Compatibility Mode: You mentioned you tried running Steam in compatibility mode, but did you try doing it with the game itself? Right-click on the game's .exe file, go to 'Properties', click the 'Compatibility' tab and check the box that says 'Run this program in compatibility mode for apkbyte.com:'. You can try different versions here, Windows 7 or 8 are commonly used for older games.

    3. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations: In the same Compatibility tab where you adjust the mode, there is also a 'Disable fullscreen optimizations' box. Try checking this box.

    4. Run as Administrator: Still in the compatibility tab, check the box that says 'Run this program as an administrator'.

    5. Disable Steam Overlay: Sometimes the Steam Overlay can cause issues with older games. You can disable it by right-clicking the game in your Steam library, selecting 'Properties', and unchecking 'Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game'.

    6. Set Launch Options: In the game's properties in your Steam library, click 'Set Launch Options'. Add the following line: -w or -windowed to force the game to run in windowed mode.

    7. Config File: As a last resort, you could edit the game's configuration file. Remember to make a backup of the file before changing anything. Look for settings that might be causing the issue, like fullscreen mode, resolution, etc.
