Unlink defunct EA account from Xbox

After several attempts to use EA customer support I am out of options. I know I am not the first person with this issue. It's been occurring for years with no resolution.

Around 2010, I setup an EA account through my Xbox so I could play an EA game. I used my wife's email, from before we were married, we left most of the info fields blank because I didn't need the account for anything other than playing the game.

13 years later I want to play a EA game using my game pass for PC and EA Play access. I can not login. I can not access the defunct email. EA customer support tells me my information provided is incorrect.

I just want to play video games. How can I unlink this defunct account without access? EA support says I can't verify its my account, then I want this account removed from the Xbox account I can prove ownership of.

I never take time to comment or complain on the internet. This time I had to. Guess I just don't play anymore EA games.

    Hi @TriggerCappy1

If you can log into the account yourself, you may be able to unlink the console from the EA account without needing the Support team. Try the steps outlined in these articles:

    1. I can't log in to my EA Account - Try using the connected account to login. There are other steps recommended also that may work.
    2. Unlink your platform accounts from your EA Account -  Once in, this'll guide you through removing a connected account
    3. How to update your EA Account - If needed, this will outline how to update the details on the EA account.

If you hit a snag getting into the account, unlinking the console or with updating your EA account information on your own, there's no way around it; you'll need the help of the EA Help Support Team which means you'll need to pass the security checks.

If you can pass the account security stage with them, they'll be able to help you make changes to the account information including updating the email registered to it. The opposite is also true though, if you can't provide enough accurate information to pass the verification stage, their hands will be tied.

Please work with them to proceed with the case. You can get back in contact them through the EA Help site:  https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/new/

    Thanks,

  • I have already been in contact with EA support. I can not login as it asks for email verification for an email account that no longer exists to me.

I have been told the info I provided doesn't match what they have on file. It's been 13 years. I logged in once.

It's now like someone else's account is linked to my Xbox account. EA said they cannot help.

I just want to be able to use my Xbox account with my new EA account. I don't need access to the old account. There is nothing in there I want besides breaking the link.

    Hi @TriggerCappy1

Thanks for trying it with your email, but could you try it using the other methods shared in the first link I gave you? For example, you said your console was linked up. In the link I shared it gives you a way to log in using your console account. Please, read through the articles and try the steps in them. If they don't work, then you're out of luck because the support team can't make any account changes if you're unable to pass the security stage with them.
