Online Multiplayer Mode is Dead (for PC at least)

How have the developers still not figured out the multiplayer mode yet.
It's one of the EASIEST fixes for a developer to do compared to actually creating new content for the game.
And because they are more focus on creating new content over fixing the game, people are starting to lose interest in it.

Let me explain...

When playing online against other players there are 3 difficulty levels.
Simulation (The hardest skill level with pure simulation. The least played)
Tour (Ideal skill level with consiquential decision making. The most played)
Pro (Beginner skill level with heavy guidance on how to play. For new players learning the game)

There are also 3 different game modes online.
Birdie Fest (Which is 1v1 match play)
Ryder Cup (Which is 2v2  match play)

Ocean View (Which is up to "16" players all playing simultaniously.)

EACH
game mode will cycle and LOCK a difficulty to that game mode for 24 hours.

For instance. Today, (the first day of masters)
our 3 options are....

Birdie Fest 1v1 - Simulation
If you want to play 1v1 today you are OUT OF LUCK! It's simulation... Sorry no one wants to play that and the que is dead.

Ryder Cup 2v2 - Tour
Well what do you know?! Tour mode, the most played difficulty is stuck on 2v2 today. If you don't have a friend to play with, go make some popcorn and put on a movie.
You'll be lucky if you wait in que for at least 20 minutes (not exxagerating) for 3 randoms to play with you.

Ocean View 16 Player - Pro
Ocean view which could be fun playing with lots of people at the same time. The problem is, TODAY Ocean View is pro.
Which the vast majority of players today don't like or want to play simultaneously on pro while on a time limit.

So, as I sit here on Masters opening day watching Bryson Dechambeau possibly poke his eye again with guidance rope.
I just want to play a 1v1 in tour mode but can't because today they don't even have the option...

In conclusion
When the game first came out, there was only 1 game mode in multiplayer that had constant traffic.
everyone played that option because it was the ONLY game mode you can play online.

Once the developers added 3 game options that cycle difficulties every 24 hours, people would literally log on look at their prefered game mode and HOPE that it was the skill difficulty they wanted.
If it's not the game mode and skill difficulty they want, They'd log off until tomorrow. In turn this KILLS the population of the game and que times.

The fix
The simple temporary fix would be to remove multiple game modes and just have 1 multiplayer game mode with the community prefered skill level. (Tour)

Later down the road when the developers implement crossplay, THEN come out with the three game modes for multiplayer. The crossplay population would possibly allow there to be a steady flow of players online which is what the game REALLY needs right now.

I'm only typing all this out because I really do love this game and want it to succeed. I've taken time out of my day to express the problems I have with this game that I feel could be such an easy fix.

Again, less content, more quality of life things. The game isn't trying to compete against other golf games when it comes to content.
EA has already won in that department when it comes to the 2k  golf game and we all know this.
Make the game solid by fixing the BIG problems.

New content brings new people, solidity of the game keeps the old people.

  • Tour was fine on pc when the game launched because the old aiming arc made it accessible to the average player (and the average player isn't very good at the game, regardless of platform). Nowadays, especially after gamepass, pro match play is where I'm getting the most matchups.

I don't think difficulty is as relevant as the conditions. Low wind tour seems easier to the average player than high wind pro. Today's match play setup is a good example.

@lolwhat1234 this game wont make it to the next season, 60+ days left, not a chance, -EA- appears to have zero interest in doing anything people ask for let alone fix stuff thats broken (daily/weekly/seasonal tournaments ring a bell....)

It's probably a hard pass too today. Tour strong wind, nope won't play that. Pro foursome, it takes forever, won't play that. Forward tee Sim low wind, MAYBE I will play that later. And they force you to use your created golfer, if you just join the game and haven't build your golfer, you can't compete on that either.

@7AnimalMotherI don't understand the philophosy of "pc players play tour, but console players play pro." What's different about console skill levels to PC skill levels?

(Speculation)Is it cause when the game goes on sale and more console players buy it. They are new to the game, so they only play pro for the next month?
It's not because it's "naturally more popular". I TRULY think it's the beginner skill level, and people play the game as pro when they first start out. And they will casually play the game as pro if they are CASUAL golf gamers that got the game on sale for 15$.

Im not disagreeing that pro is more popular on console. I just don't understand why.

Nothing to do with beginner skill level, at all. Most play Pro and Arcade because it's more fun.  Arcade has been explained many times, it's the game where the winner is decided by who hole out the most times. That's why these guys can play -30 and better.

That's where you have been confused throughout this whole thread. It has nothing to do with casual playability. The best arcade players play a game that is less like golf and more like jarts. We try to put the ball in the hole from the fairway, putting is failure.

@Katybee_1313 To me that sounds like a golfing community that was created back in the old golf games (Woods PGA 14, or Rory) when playing "arcade" mode.
That community may still be around and may say "putting is a failure" when they play pro.

But I genuinly don't think the AVERAGE Pro player thinks that way.
As I never have because to me, there's more skill to be had in Tour.

I think the community of people that think "putting is failure" are just stuck in their old ways.
Times have changed from the old days when it comes to play style and skill meta's.

To touch more up on this I made a seperate thread.
