Patch 6.0 Discussion
I thought I pop back in here after a long time being away as I saw a new patch downloading on Steam. So cool, a new course. I'm wondering though, they start the patch notes with this: --- https://w...
@PicoTTo2008 wrote:@ELF014 I respect your opinion and everyone else's (that actually make sense). Firstly i did not say the courses was an add on, (bear in mind there is already 30+ odd courses in the game) i stated they update the game 'almost monthly' with patches and a free course and yes no one asked for pro pass but to me that's a nice feature (something i did not expect) and like i say if you have maxed out your character you now have something to aim for to unlock rewards and grind for. I too grew up on all the ea golf games including Tiger and Rory.
I am not saying the game is perfect, i play on Xbox and the challenges STILL do not unlock despite completing them, the quest for doing Augusta at 9 under also does not unlock dispite me getting 11 under - the online play still is not perfect but its heading in the right direction so i look forward to updates in the future to make this the ultimate golf game (which it is not far from already IMO).
👍
I am not trying to make your point of view any less important than anyone elses. I was just responding to why people are disappointed.
You implied that we should be thankful that these courses are being released, and we are but they were promised as part of our purchase. And to myself 30 on release is significant, personally if they would have been able to release every course actually on the tour schedule that would have been ideal.
If you look at their counterpart 2K... they have a few more courses. But in my opinion EA did a pretty good job with the number of courses released.
I don't quite understand the Pro Pass as being anything other than a money grab. It is basically what is already in the game. You can currently earn items, VC and XP through challenges or buy them from earned VC in the store. Do we really need another method to get these items... when the resources to do this could have been spent fixing other issues?
I think anyone who has spent any amount of time in the game has maxed out their character, and XP is now redundant... yet it is still a reward in the new Pro Pass.
To me it was a real oversight to develop a levelling system where most people would max out a character in a few weeks, and then leave no purpose for collecting XP moving forward. Having no longevity in a character building system is a real problem for, considering my favorite genre in video games are RPG's. There are lots of examples of RPG's they could have learned from to extend this process.
As far as the game not being perfect... I fully agree with you. I'm on the PS5, and the same challenge on Augusta and Sawgrass have never unlocked for me... and I don't know how many times now that I have been double digits under par. I don't even play challenges anymore because of several reasons.
From not being rewarded for completing them, I have completed building my player (and it has made the game unrealistically easy to play), some unrealistic challenges, and finally it just got boring.
For myself it was a great concept in place of a tutorial, and great for levelling up your character. I was more than willing to grind to earn an item I want... but once you mine everything you want I don't see any reason to keep playing the challenges. As I described, it becomes a grind and isn't any fun to do.
The online play options are terrible... and how it was implemented is as bad as you can conceive. There are currently only two play styles available (one added in the last patch) and having a separate icon for each difficulty just litters up the menu. I guess they wanted to fill it up so it didn't seem so empty. And my biggest per peeve... is when you don't select a preset... you cannot lock the parameters of the game. Everyone gets to play with whatever settings are tied to their character, how do you create an even playing field if some people are using putt previews, meters etc... when others have everything disabled?
By the way did anyone notice in Quick Play when you select players it has two options... LOCAL PLAYER and CPU PLAYER... and your choices are the same?
In my opinion the game is far too easy... the rough isn't penal enough, especially when they have multiple cuts you can set in the game. The gameplay (swing mechanics) can be inconsistent, and in my opinion a bit unreliable. Some of the RNG is unreasonable. The dispersion zone for a driver shouldn't be the width of a fairway... the result of a shot should be tied more to shot execution than dispersion. Though I like thecidea of dispersion. The ball physics are terrible... they are a bit all over the place. A wedge will spin when you deloft the club... it doesn't when you loft it... the ball will spin back 30 feet back uphill in some cases. It is kond of all over the place.
The putting surface plays too slow other times. The 16th at Augusta is a prime example... on the Sunday pin if you hit a ball above the hole and it starts rolling back to the pin it shouldn't stop on the hill.
The cup physics were terrible coming out of the gate... but after patching it is a lot better but still not fixed. Now we are getting roll overs when they shouldn't happen. I don't mind the lip outs... but there are a few I question.
My view on the updates are that they have been a bit of a hit and miss, having worked in the software business I get understand how updates can bring both improvements and new gaps in the software. However obvious bugs are from poor QA or they were aware of the bug and reeased it anyway thinking they will fix it in a later patch.
Where we differ in opinion is that the game is far from perfect. It definitely has it's charm and more polished in many respects from it's competition, but it lacks substance.
Things are moving forward but it seems like it is consistently moving two steps forward and one back.
It has ignored segments of the community with the lack of access for the 3-click users, and there is not enough difficulty in the game for those wanting a more realistic experience.
There is nothing in the game to build a community to further strengthen the game or course creator to add community content.
We are a long way from perfection... but I do hope we get there at some point.
It's disappointing for me to strip my character of all it's skill points and specs just to get some challenge from the game. And I'm still consistently shooting well under par, with no aids enabled. And I don't consider myself a good player.
The game has a long way to go.
@ELF014 For yourself and others who have the issue with the not unlocking the 9 under at Augusta and others, did you try on a new golfer?
I found that no matter what, they just refused to complete, and it was only after playing through with a newly created golfer that they unlocked for me.
Off-topic stuff done with, sorry all.

Thanks @Noya_Wesa for the information, but at this point it is no longer of any importance to me. I am a completionist at heart but with all the early issues I have.... lost heart?
There is nothing left in the challenges that interest me. It was my main way of building my character, but after maxing out and finding it is way overpowered to be enjoyable there is no reason in my mind to continue chasing challenges.
But I'm sure this tip will help others out there. Maybe send up a bug case letting EA know?

I was able to complete the -9 at Augusta with the same golfer in the following season in Career Mode at Augusta. Hope this is the correct challenge that is referred. The key is to score -9 or better in a single round. It is ironic that -9 in a single round is the record set for Augusta. As a note, I am playing with Xbox Series X. I am not sure if this works with PC.
