@agentputt We still desperately need harder difficulty swing settings added, more punishment for bad lies and RNG needs to be pretty much completely removed because it’s just not realistic to have any RNG added. Shots needs to make sense and RNG does the opposite of that.
Another very lazy update from EA failing to address the biggest issues. I’ll be glad when EA finally shelve.this game again and hopefully for good this time with 2K23 being light years ahead of EA’s flat and half assed effort. Amazing how 2K have embarrassed EA in NBA games, NHL games, NFL games and now golf games

Everyone has their priorities. The cup physics are - to me - the biggest issue this game has. Way too many lip outs that defied the rules of gravity and totally removed much of the immersion that this is a "simulation" golf game.
The fact they are willing to 100% overhaul the cup physics after almost 10 months is kind of crazy. It shows they are willing to make massive changes to the game even after this much time. Granted, so many things need to be addressed or added to this game, but I don't see this as a "lazy" update - they are literally completely replacing the tech for how the golf ball interacts with the cup. That seems to be a pretty massive undertaking.
Now, if the update makes no noticeable difference or actually makes it worse, then I don't know what to say.
I do agree that the difficulty and RNG in the game is an area of concern, too. But if the golf ball doesn't go into the golf hole properly, then the rest of the game doesn't really matter.

@sroel908 Have a read of this from the patch notes
”Although some lip-ins and lip-outs may appear different than they did before, the frequency of hole outs and lip-outs is comparable to the previous tech”
The game has always felt like it had no real physics and when they talk about frequencies of lip outs being comparable to how it was before, it tells me they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes saying it’s all new technology in this update. I call BS on it and it looks like a mere tweak to their fake physics which supports my opinion that with all the issues the game has had since it launched 9 months ago, this update is so so lazy and we will all be having the same conversations about the same issues within hours of the new update applying
I absolutely get that the game caters for the casuals and some will enjoy it and that’s their absolute right to do so but as a real competent golfer, this game is an insult to the sport. I know you’ll feel that’s a bit harsh but for a game that markets itself as an accurate simulation of golf, it plays like a game that is a million miles from anything like simulation golf and thats why it is such an insult to golf and actually it’s consumers who expected it to play like we were told.
i stand by what i said in that EA should ditch the game because they clearly have no idea about golf.
I don't think that the game is perfect but I cannot understand someone saying that this game is a million miles from simulation golf ...
- 2 years ago@sroel908 I agree. I have used the auto tap ins since I started the game. I found that set at 3ft there would be mises at least twice a round. Now there are none. Perfect. I play for fun not some sort of challenge. What I also found by playing the Quick Play is that those rounds are the driving range and where you can learn how to make and control shots as needed. What I found about misdirected shots was that it was not the game misdirecting them but how I was using the controller. You have to use the controller buttons perfectly or your shots play out just like they do on the real golf course. This you can practice in Quick Play. For those that have not practiced in Quick Play you will find out how to choose the proper clubs for each shot and how to use different buttons to gain different results with every club with all different wind directions and speeds. This I have been working on since I got the game. This is where the fun comes in. Start using all the different shot types with all clubs in Quick Play and you will be surprised how accurate your shots can be if you teach yourself how to actually control the controller.

I'm very happy with this patch. That's the most I've played this game, and the biggest complaint I had was the cup physics and it's working very well for me right now. For some reasons, I have many rounds where RNG is minimal. And other times, specially evening, the ball is going all over the place. Really weird.
- 2 years ago@Katybee_1313 Couldn’t agree more
My only aggravation about this game right now is the RNG
If RNG got majorly adjusted to make it feel like you’re in control of your shots (especially on Tour and Arcade) the game would be in a great spot

I complete agree with harder swing settings and penalties from bad lies, but completely disagree about the rng. This game currently has nearly no rng for a max level legendary equipped golfer. If anything rng should be cranked way up for distance and direction out of rough and sand. Why? Because that’s an accurate simulation of what actually occurs ion course when there is a significant amount of material between the club face and the ball. As it stands now, 18+ under on tour settings is easily achievable.

The sad part is this is who the devs will end up listening to.

They should. Because your guys on here complaining about rng while the rest of us are shooting birdies and eagles on every hole must be playing a completely different game…

I haven't played this game since the previous patch release. It seems it is the only time I play it to see what EA broke or fixed.
I'm on PS5 and there is a small group of friends I play with, and last night I was able to convinced them to see what the new patch brought.
We set it to turn based sim settings and had a round, note that we use stock characters with a 67 base, no specs or skill points.
The strange thing was I did not have an issue with RNG, had to adjust my game because I forgot I needed to leave myself full shots into the green. But once I did that I was putting myself scoring range with putting.
I shot a 4 under par... which tells me the difficulty in the game hasn't changed. The flop shot bailed me out anytime I was inside 21 yards, and the putting was way too easy to control distance.
I will say that the experience felt better, in that I didn't run into any glitches (though I had one unrealistic shot that landed on the green and spun back 6 feet through another 6 feet of rough into a sandtrap on a stock PW).
But the game was too easy... no real thought was needed. You can leave the ball anywhere around the green and you can get the ball up and down.
I think a few small adjustments would make the game more inclusive.
In a private game allow us to control every parameter. Add control to set additional parameters, like disabling every available feature.
ie. aiming reticule, green grid and swing arc (defaulted on with sim settings), all the aids in the window (it would be nice to turn them off).
Options to increase the green speeds... if the current is normal, include a fast, faster and fastest where you see more roll out.
And to make putting velocity based, rather than controlling distance by where you place your aiming reticule.
Other than the last request these changes would not affect the current players, they would just be options available to be toggled on or off. But would provide an additional challenge for those that wanted it.
I would also increase the swing speed about 15%, I like it much better than 2K but it feels a touch too slow.
Oh and I didn't have any odd putting glitches with this patch, no roll overs or odd lip outs. So in that way it seems this patch is a win. And we also got through the round without getting booted off, which some people are complaining about.
Not enough challenge for my group to continue playing the game, but for me the patch seems like a step in the right direction. It is still a game built for the novice golfer... it needs to be more inclusive.
As others have said additional swing difficulties would help round out the game and it hurts no one. It just makes the game more inclusive for those needing more of a challenge.
And they definitely need to do something about making things more penal for shots not on the fairway. In taking away distance, control.... and SPIN. I personally feel there should be a small window where if you hit a perfect shot it should still come out clean just without the same amount of spin. So a shot executed straight with PERFECT timing should come out of a penal situation with next to no loss in distance or control.
This is the one place where they could add some variation to the game. Right now the game plays pretty much the same from wherever your ball lands.

I think RNG is a built in "CHEAT" its like your opponent is standing next to you poking you while your trying to take your shot. IMHO

OMG. Very good analogy. That just reminds me of antics done in Wrasslin, Or maybe something Bill Murray would do in a golf course.

I am just wondering if you have anything good to say about anything. I have worked through a ship load of things in this golf game since it's beginning. Everything is workable and the constant re-programing that is being done has been fixing everything that it can. If you prefer other games ... by all means go to their forums.
I come to this forum to gain helpful hints and not the constant tripe from online constant negativity from social media types that hide behind their anonymity.
Good luck to you and all my best when you slip away. 👿

It is hopefully these people that provide a voice that moves the peanut down the road, give the developers a sense of where they can improve on or fix issues in the game. To remain silent acknowledges to them there is nothing wrong with the product and we know that isn't so.
The issue is even when EA has acknowledged a problem their solution has been worst than the original effort. Rather than blaming those wanting to help improve the product.... the blame should be on those producing it.
As I mentioned in another post, as a developer you have a responsibility to to improve on what you have done. I have seen too many instances where a software company will knowingly release a broken update with the mindset of we will fix it on the next patch.
I have always been of the mindset to hold back the patch and get it right first. It doesn't really provide goodwill and confidence to a client when you break their software more even if you are giving then an added feature.

Which was our hope when they pushed the released date back a year then what, another 3 weeks right before launch still requiring patches within weeks.
Shoot, that didn't come out right. I meant, you know how the developers worked an extra year and realized they'd have to patch it at launch so they pushed it back 3 weeks so they'd have a completed product customers would be happy with.
- 2 years ago@drewgriffiths Will be sorry but very happy to see you go Drew. Mothers used to say 'save your breath to cool your pudding'. Constantly complaining about this game just prevents you from finding your your own solutions until fixes come out. They have done a great job with the releases. Programing is not that easy. Playing the game is. Hope that you have a new home with that other golf game.

I have gone down this path... turn everything possible off, increase the AI in career mode to the max and there is still not enough challenge in the game. And this includes playing with a character with no skill points or specs.
AND I don't consider myself an especially good player. I only play between patches now, and checking out the game this week since the last patch I shot a -4 on SIM settings and a 67 base character at the country club.
Now I will put the game away again until the next update because my group doesn't feel it provides enough of a challenge.
And defining constructive criticism and complaining can be a fine line between how people interpret things. I would rather accept it as constructive criticism. I don't need to agree everything people have to say, but they are entitled to their opinion.

@ELF014 I had a similar problem with the NHL game where the Be a Pro mode is just too easy so when I say I managed to find ways of making it a decent challenge, I know what to do when a game feels too easy. However, I’m out of options on this game and I have to stress yet again that I don’t wish to wipe out the casual gamers, I want the game to be more inclusive, expdaded, give the simmers options so we can enjoy the game. This should be simple to understand, but I’m staggered how many seem rattled or confused by that.
- drewgriffiths2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
@LemonDropKid Apparently I work for 2K
All the complaining I’ve done is to push for a more inclusive game that caters for all as I think this game could be miles ahead of 2K. If that makes me public enemy number 1, so be it. Without people pushing for improvement, I’d shudder to think what state the game would be in right now. Just to clarify, it’s now impossible to make the game more difficult so it becomes a decent challenge for me, I have no options to turn to. No aids, stock golfer with no skills or specs. More swing levels added would work wonders straight away, removing RNG, proper punshiment for bad lies, believable physics and showing OB areas on hole maps. I probably wouldn’t be seen here then, I’d be too busy playing and I wouldn’t bother with “that other golf game”
But remember, I work for 2K apparently 😆
