Performance option for console versions?

I'd like to know if there will be a performance option for the console versions of EA Sports PGA TOUR, in which it would be possible to play the game at 60 FPS?

We now have a definitive answer to the fps question, including some hope for improvement:

What is the fps for EA SPORTS PGA TOUR?

On PC, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR can run at 30 fps, 60 fps, or unlocked framerate. Consoles (Xbox X/S and PS 5) will run 30 fps.

We understand that some players have a strong visual preference for higher framerate in their video games and we’ve heard community feedback surrounding the fps of the game on console. As a result, we’re examining the ability to add it into the game in the future.

@BuckHasTheBook It certainly seems that way, not only with the delay lag, but with the artificially throttled swing animation rate. It's going slower than what it's modeling, but it's doing it with a purpose, and that is to keep the gamer from having enough feedback to sense the effects of the 30 FPS cap in the console versions.
  • @IXOYE56 At was screen resolution do you see this? Also, would you mind sharing your system specs here?
  • @IXOYE56 See if you think my reply #67 might account for this. I can see the difference more than I can really feel it on my humble PC. I think my theory I advance in #67 might account for why.

@90nitk78q2tu Here's the caveat I would add to them adding a 60 FPS option to the console versions. Double the animation frames from 30 to 60 per second along with it. If the animation rate has a 30 frames per second limit governing its maximum number of frames deliverable in a second, it's not going to matter much whether the screen animation rate is now capable of delivering 60 frames per second if there is only a maximum of 30 frames in one second to deliver.

@theycagednon I think it depends on what the gamer's preferences are. I've put a huge premium on frame rates going back to PGA Championship Golf 99, and the introduction of the trueswing (analog mouse swing) interface. The frame rate was crucial to the feel and enjoyment of that game.. at least for me.

I don't really feel the swing in EA Sports PGA Tour, on the PC version or the Series X version. I'm about to expire my play time with both versions, but I'm holding on to some time to see what effect, if any, there is with the possible addition of a 60 FPS option to the console version.

If they do something to take the artificially low speed limit of the swing animation with the introduction of 60 FPS, I think this game would suddenly have a lot of the "feel" that it's missing right now.

You're right, though, it has a good career mode and presents some challenging golf (depending on your play settings), but for me, frame rate is not a minor thing, it is priority one.
  • Seems to me the "influencers" saying that 60fps was "coming" were just carrying water for EA to get people to buy it

As always...Never -- NEVER -- buy software based upon future hopes of features

Make developers do the work and build a product worth the asking price and with the features you desire

Once they have your money, the motivation for them to assuage your concerns is gone

We were told in the pre-launch FAQ that the devs were investigating the possibility of 60 fps. I was never sure if the YouTubers were just over-interpreting this or if they actually had any additional information.

I'm still hopeful we'll get a higher frame rate mode on console in time.

The delay lag is there even at 75-80 fps, but the game is not optimized, i have drops down to 40 fps in some places, especially on the fly-by scenes, I have a I9 10900k RTX 2080TI 32GB and 1TB SSD M.2

  • @IXOYE56 Thanks! That gives me a helpful reference point. I had a feeling you'd confirm the lag was there even at 70+ frame rates. I was experimenting with it yesterday on my PC with the trial version. I was getting 70 FPS in a stripped down 720p res, and even at that, the swing start delay was very apparent.
