I've just been having another look at the tournament situation and it's actually worse than I thought for most players.
'Tickets' can be bought for 1000 Reward Points each in the shop. Across all of the daily tournaments where you can win Tickets, the bottom 75% only get 1 ticket per 1000 Reward Points paid as entry fee, or worse fewer or even none. For 75% of players we can therefore view the entry costs to the weekly and seasonal tournaments to be at least 1000 Rewards Points per Ticket the entrance costs. To win more than this a player needs to finish as follows in each tournament:
Weekly Arcade: top 35%.
Weekly Pro: top 40%.
Weekly Tour: top 40%.
Weekly Sim: top 40%.
Seasonal Arcade: top 20%.
Seasonal Pro: top 25%.
Seasonal Tour: top 30%.
Overall this means that for most players (comfortably >50%) they'd be better off not playing tournaments at all and just using the reward points earned from the free daily tournaments to buy specs or cosmetic items they want. Not a sustainable model IMHO.

I came to this realization as I was exploring the tournaments more - I just started playing a few weeks ago.
I've been getting better at the game, consistently place in the top 2 ranks for pro/arcade, and crush career mode on tour difficulty - will be upgrading to simulation in year 2. But the payout risk just isn't worth it for the weekly/seasonal tourney's, and because of the entry fee vs. risk, in addition to the lower player count in the more expensive tourneys, it's smarter not to play. And that sucks.
I'm sure they don't care, as there will always be whales and frustrated gamblers to drop big bucks, but creating negative monetary scenarios like that actually disincentivizes me from spending anything beyond sticker price and limits the time I spend with the game.
- Ultrasonic_773 years agoHero@Knockout8080 for Season 1 I was mostly focusing on Tournaments mode, in part to earn reward points for specs. Now I'm spending most time playing Online instead. Re. tournaments my current plan is just to try to earn enough tickets each week for the weekly Tour level tournament as a challenge to aim at, and possibly accrue enough additional tickets for one of the seasonal tournaments as well.

well as mentioned Daily tournaments usually reward no more then 500. Weekly relies on spending points and based on what i heard, all you get is tickets. same thing with career. i'm getting like 775 every 4 rounds. and challenges were easy at first but lately they make it tougher. "get 3 balls on the green" hits 3, and they slide off the green to the fringe or fairway. "get the ball to at least 5 feet of the hole" ends up more like 15 or 20 every try. "make 3 putts" miss every one. so that;s no way to get points. That;s why i think every quick round should reward points too.
- 3 years ago@c4a1d589907a2d55 Those are all easy challenges if you put your skill points in the right categories and use your spin of the ball correctly to reach the green, stay on the green, push it towards the hole after landing etc
I realize the game can be difficult for some but why should EA dumb down the game to hand out all these points to the user, cutting off other parts of their game they created ( challenges )
As said, it seems people just want instant gratification and everything at their disposal right away rather than earn it. Play the game, figure it out like the rest of us have - 3 years ago
oh I've been playing the game. had it since early April. i pre-ordered it so i can play it like a couple of days early. if yu recall, EA Golf Games in the past used to make all your skills at 100% in everything. They even had cheat codes so you can obtain the maxed out clubs so you play at 200% but anyway i've been playing Career and i won a few so far. hwever Torrey Pines was tough and ddn;t won it. i ended up in 2nd with -5 while 1st place was -6. remembeer this game is supposed to make it easy or hard as you want to play it so given that, it's pretty much good reason to let us have easier ways to get the things we want. But it's cool though.
- 3 years ago@blue4eva77 Have to disagree here the game need to cater for everyone
I’m in the top 10% in almost every tournament I enter so it’s easy for me to gain coins but I can’t imagine the grind for some people as @UltraSonic eluded to - 3 years ago
I know. it should be as easy or hard as you want. if that;s how you want to play it dfine. however if you want to up the diffuculty, you can do that too. but playing the game the way i am now, it could take months before you get the points you need to get stuff. so that;s why i say it should be easier.

@blue4eva77 The point is, the challenges do not work. They give me the stars but no rewards. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the way you put your skill points in or how good you are. Steam starts when I start my computer, and this morning the game downloaded and installed a big patch. So hopefully the sponsor & other challenges are fixed, so you do not have to depend on the lousy rewards you now get in the tournaments, in order to make some money to spend in the store. I'll report back later. lol
