Positive Features of Other Golf Games to Implement for PGA Tour Sequel

I have a list of features from previous golf games such as TW/Rory PGA Tour and 2K21/2K23 that could help improve the current PGA Tour and possibly EA PGA Tour 2024.

1) Attributes of created golfers are not 0 when you start.

a) In TW, players can fill attributes.

b) In Rory, players have decent attributes and need some grinding.

c) In 2K21, no grinding is necessary.

I wish current PGA Tour had this feature instead of doing long grinds; it took me more than a month to reach level 50.

2) No specs are available or all specs are available.

a) In TW/Rory, no club/ball specs exist.

b) In 2K21 and 2K23, all specs are available in store.

I wish players do not need to wait when spec wanted is available in store. The waiting for availability is my biggest complaint because I log on every day to just see another Danielle Kang spec.

3) The gameplay mechanics of TW, Rory and 2K21 was enjoyable for an arcade player like me and it remained constant. PGA 2k23 had an issue after update forced ball to left regardless of angle. EA PGA Tour had promising gameplay when it first came out and it got worse after update 3.0 due to lip-out fests. I wish sliders are available to accommodate advanced gamers and arcade gamers.

4) “Participation in Daily Tournament” is not a prerequisite to earn rewards in TW, Rory, 2K21/2K23. I wish the EA PGA Tour eliminated the “Participation in Daily Tournament” for daily quest. Using accomplishments such as birdies, eagles, and par saves are better.

5) TW has the best customization for face because of Gameface. WWE 2K22/2K23 is able to use a game face technology for next gen. Adding this to PGA Tour would be great.

6) I was impressed with the Alexa voice being able to say the name “Ana De Armas” when selecting golfer in quick play. This feature was not available in other golf games. It would be nice if commentators can say the name as well.

The next EA Game I am looking forward for is Madden NFL 24.

@BuckHasTheBookThat’s what I am afraid of. I have played the Tiger Wood PGA Tour 2003 to its last iteration of 2014. The TW version kept progressing with technology from generic faces to photo gameface alpha to photo gameface beta. The finished product was great because Tiger Woods most likely provided feedback.

Then came Rory PGA Tour which had a slight regression. The changes were the removal of gameface and the first game where grinding occurred. However the grinding is minimal because the golfer starts at 75 rating. The finished product was still decent since Rory McIlroy most likely provided feedback. The biggest complaint of this game was the removal of photo gameface. For one thing, Rory ain’t no Tiger Woods. That is where the difference in feedback happened.

This year, PGA Tour had no golfer endorsement and possibly no feedback. Problems with gameplay due to RNG, Physics, and Multiple Lip Outs have been highly frustrating. In addition the grinding is so long because the golfer starts at 0. The next gen golfer with the most Majors is Brooks Koepka with 5. I wished EA featured Brooks Koepka this year because Brooks Koepka would also have provided feedback for the product.

@PalomaMarvel24 For the hardcore player you don't need anyone to endorse the game. HB Studio's did finecwithout it.... they only got Tiger when 2K came into the picture.

I personally think it is overrated. In one of the early Golf Club games they had an artificial tour where you could rename all the AI players. I believe they even had different attributes, so if you were inclined you could rename each player to an existing pro.

I don't know why you would want to play as an avatar (that isn't even close to how the real pro would play), than as your own personally created one.

I would rather they invest the money into making the game better.

I bought every version of the Golf Club series and was excited to do so... and there were no endorsements associated in the early installments.

They do need to tighten up the RNG for some shots, and fix the ball physics. The lip outs I'm still debating on... but the roll overs on slow rolling putts that arecdead center in the cup needs looking at.

@ELF014I agree with tightening up the RNG. I also agree with the slow rolling putts. They were pretty recent and I have been burnt by them. I thought I had an easy putt at 3 ft and I was completely shocked when I missed those slow rolling putts.

On a separate topic, you mentioned that it would be a good idea to earn vc instead of xp once golfer reach level 50. I found some inspiration for your idea to work.  Currently, I am playing EA PGA Tour in parallel with AEW Fight Forever. While playing AEW Fight Forever, I played as AEW Wrestler Britt Baker DMD and she could earn 10000 to 15000 vc per exhibition wrestling match victory, and 20,000 vc per career victory. What makes this special is Britt Baker’s earnings occur every win and there are no limits while PGA Tour career and challenge vcs are earned only once

Going back to your idea, if golfer earns 18,000 vc instead of xp for quick play, that golfer could earn closer to what Britt Baker DMD does per match. With 18000 vc per game, a golfer could easily purchase much needed specs and even participate in daily tournaments for 3-Click Players. I would actually wish we could earn vc often in PGA Tour just like what is done in AEW Fight Forever.

@PalomaMarvel24 I think that's a lot of VC, and I would personally rather grind a bit for my equipment... etc.

But that doesn't mean they couldn't have added VC to the career mode. Paying out based on where you finished... as long as you made the cut. Maybe even charge you a significant entry fee in the bigger tournaments.

Making you grind in the smaller tournaments until you make enough, and qualify for the tour.

There a lot of directions they could have taken to givecthe game longevity. But it doesn't seem anyone took it into account.

In fact I'm at a loss as to what vision they had for this project. It has aways felt to me that it was a bunch of parts cobbled together by different development teams that never had a meeting together.

That each team was given an area of the game, and they came back a week before release and bailey wired it together.
  • Couldn't agree with you more, EA does need to tighten on the RNG and I am with you on wanting to play as my own created golfer rather than an avatar. I do recognise that some gamers prefer to play as an avatar and that is their prerogative and this game caters for that

@Allan5858  I would rather play as my own player than use a built in avatar.

I have enjoyed creating my own characters, and I have been lucky to witness the inception of photo face capture technology in video games. EA introduced a face capture for gaming with the Sims Game in 2006. I remembered creating Anne Hathaway and it looked close to her.

This technology also got introduced by EA in the PS3/Xbox 360 consoles as photo gameface alpha in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 or 2010. This was cool when it first came out. I also created Anne Hathaway, but the only feature that stood out were her lips.

EA’s Gameface Beta got introduced in response to PS4 and Xbox1. WWE 2K also introduced their version which was equivalent to EA’s version. I created Felicity Jones and it even looked closer to her. EA UFC used gameface but too bad Bones was not a nickname; I wanted to create Felicity Bones Jones.

With the advent of the next gen consoles, EA removed gameface due to compatibility issues. WWE 2K20 made their first attempt, but their next gen face capture technology sucked at the time since Ana De Armas looked like Lily Tomlin and Margot Robbie looked like Emma Thompson.

WWE 2K did not get deterred by their failure in 2K20. They made a comeback in 2022 with WWE 2K22 and the face capture results were absolutely amazing. The Ana De Armas and Margot Robbie created avatars looked exactly like their photos. WWE 2K23 even made an improvement where Ana De Armas is much like an exact replica of her as Paloma in "No Time To Die".

I am hoping EA could reinstate gameface because WWE 2K was able to show it could be done in next gen consoles.
