You can edge with controller just as easily with a cutout piece of cardboard. Realtime mouse swing feels like playing golf which is why we love it so much. Such a shame such a good system is destroyed by people who don't play fairly. EA could have implemented a cheat checking script that looks for swings that are always perfectly straight. Not hard to do.

Yep, I agree. I pre-ordered the game thinking such an obvious feature (already found in the major competing title) would surely be in it. At release, I was heartbroken to discover otherwise. The keyboard/mouse mechanics that were there were ridiculous -- it would have been difficult to give any less thought to PC keyboard/mouse users. I am certainly not interested in the 3-click "swing", Like others have said here, I want to enjoy the "feel" of a golf swing. And as a PC-only gamer, I don't want to have to mess around with a controller. As I could find no discussions suggesting it was on EAs radar at all to introduce what seems such an obvious feature, I refunded the game the same day and will definitely not re-purchase unless/until they add that ability. I see some comments here are blaming the lack on a perceived notion that using mouse/keyboard would be "unfair" to controller-only users. It's a frankly horrible excuse for omitting the feature -- what this represents to my mind, pure and simple, is a total lack of consideration for the PC player community. The entire interface on day one on PC frankly looked and behaved like a rushed console port, not so much designed as hastily patched in as an afterthought. After all the many (extra) months waiting for this title, it was a very sore disappointment. Just as with many other titles where the difference between mouse/keyboard play and controller play can be significant, companies that WANT to court a large PC player base have invariably designed for that, including well-thought out keyboard/mouse mechanics. And WHEN deemed necessary for competetive online play, they have given hosts the option to set restrictions on who can participate. As I understand it, since EA went ahead and added the 3-click mechanic, they've implemented precisely that sort of mechanism. All the evidence points squarely to a lack of care for the PC market for the initial release. I hope that changes, of course, and I'll continue to keep an eye out to see if a true mouse swing feature ever makes it onto EAs update list. But I guess I won't hold my breath.

If they're so concerned about cheating, they can disable it from their online tournaments. But they should at the very least make mouse swing available for solo play and private multiplayer.I honestly couldn't care less for their global tournaments. If they brought back Country Clubs, I would be interested in those kinds of tournaments. But for now, career mode and private multiplayer are all that interest me, so give us the option to play how we want.

I had to uninstall the game - the way they originally had it set up, 3 click or using a controller to swing just doesn't interest me at all. I can only hope they implement mouse swinging for 2024.

the mouse trueswing is what killed the franchise imo. We called them "edgers" back in the day and when it was introduced in 2005 we started seeing a decline in competitive matchups. 3 click and analog joystick players I feel is more sporting.

I hit perfectly straight with the controller 99% of the time. That's not really the issue. What I almost never do with the controller is get perfect power and tempo. 3-click is way easier. But Honestly when everyone is using the same method of swinging its more of a level playing field period. Thats what the real problem was. I've been a 3-clicker since World Tour Golf in 1986 up to tw08, but if they add what was originally called mouse "true swing" which I believe debuted in 2005, They better keep it out of competitive online play like they are doing with 3-click.

@RichAC- 1:1 mouse swing was definately in TW2000 but it could have been earlier like BuckHasTheBook mentioned.

I did some research. Turns out they introduced trueswing in TW02 according to IGN. I guess 2005 was a turning point for many reasons in online gaming in general. As I said above its also when EA Sports abandoned MLB and the two companies that bought the rights to make mlb games didn't make one for the pc.

EA's public claim was that too many people were pirating their games. I believe the truth is their games were becoming less popular because of online cheaters. And its not just EA games, it was the whole industry. It also feels like with this release they still don't' understand the importance of the online multiplayer aspect of the game.

Or maybe EA knew and didn't want to publicly admit it. The very first time any gaming company very publicly admitted to being hacked, was when the crytek apologized for hackers in their beta of crysis 2 and promised solutions on release, but ended up having take the game offline it was so bad. ea battlelog servers in 2013 got taken offline for days, and EA publicly stated right on the front page they were being ddos attacked, another historic moment.

understandable. I'm a 3 click player and thats how they treated 3 click. But fine by me, i'm more concerned with online turn based multiplayer game modes. and would much rather they prioritize that even though I have to use controller.
