The online lobbies and game modes rotating is an improvement but...

I wanna start by saying the online modes are moving in a much better direction. Fuller lobbies and rotating game modes are def a plus. But... a lot of times the whole lobby will get disconnected when trying to load into a game with anything more then 4 or 5 players. I can tell cause when I re-queue up its all the same people so obviously they didn't make it in either. reoccurs 1/3 or 1/4 of the time. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely buggy. Also, nobody plays the 10-15mph game modes you guys can pretty much take those out at this point they're pretty dead. (also we need crossplay its the same 20 people playing this game)

Crossplay, and the ability to party up or invite players (even 'recent players' like gta online) would be huge if there were more people playing the game. This game is objectively better than 2K but the online play issues like this turn ppl off of this game.

couple other ideas - add one more game mode that kicks off a full 18 every hour or every 2 hours, stroke play, with higher rewards, with a 10-15 min queue up window for the lobby would guarantee at least a few full lobbies a day. Add a W/L ratio and a handicap to the leaderboards. More cosmetics that people actually want from nike, adidas, etc. The ball in the lower right that shows spin should resemble the skin you actually use on your ball. RNG is still pretty out of control even on perfect-perfect swings, tone that down a bit. Holding your swing at the top has way too low of a penalty on your ball flight which is pretty unrealistic). Add wagers to the match play online mode cause it's pretty slow compared to the stroke play lobbies. Allow players to switch outfits from the pre-search lobby in online mode. Allow adding specs to multiple clubs at once. All these little things (and crossplay) would make this feel like a truly finished AAA title, and maybe more people would play.

  • @Obi-Wan-Zynobi don't even bother asking (EA) for anything, they don't care, never have, I had a MAJOR issue, and they did nothing to make it better (EA) doesn't care one bit, if they did, things would much better now
  • @Obi-Wan-Zynobi If it is loading up with the same list of characters doesn't that tell you there is a small number of people playing this?

I personally think it is more than just the online play that have people not playing the game. I think it is the game itself. People not playing online is just an extension of it.
  • For me on PS5 I've found online participation rates reasonable over the last week, often having lobbies with over 8 players and the fewest I think being 4 or 5 of us. This is an improvement of how it used to be before the longer matchmaking time period and for me now at the point that I don't feel numbers are any sort of issue. Full 16-player lobbies is more than I personally enjoy and I'd actually prefer a cap of more like 8 or 10 players personally.

The issue I've seen over the last week though is far more disconnects than I did the last time I was playing online something like 6-8 weeks ago.

  • Rotating "themes" ruined the gain they made with the new timed lobbies. When it started, with Random, 9 holes, you got 12-16 player lobbies almost every time, all day. Once they added the themes, it dropped to 10-12 with the occasional 16. Once everyone realized they were stuck with high winds, limited courses for a full day, they moved on to a different game. At first, they'd come back to check the daily change but more and more just lost interest. I had 2 main parties I would play with (4-8 people) but now most of the people are just playing something else...and these are/were hard core golf gamers. Now you're lucky to get past the 8 barrier. 4-8 is the norm with the occasional 12 and rare 16.

They need to go back to the 9 holes, random or create 20 or more themes and rotate them twice a day.

I realize the online games not counting on the leaderboard chased away a LOT of customers, but they have done nothing to bring them back.

@Beerrun4u My personal experience was very different with the random lobbies, often with maybe 4 or 5 in the lobby but then commonly everyone leaving if they didn't like what had randomly come up. The situation is MUCH better now for me, on PS5.

On Xbox, the 4-5 person lobbies were the norm prior to the lobby update. After the update, the lobbies were mostly full with the occasional bailers, but fewer and fewer as most were willing to stay for crap conditions in a full lobby knowing that the next one might be better. The full lobbies are what gets you up or down the leaderboard and that's what people want in ranked play. What they've done is taken away the chance for conditions to your liking when it's 1-2 winds, soft greens or 10-15 Tournament greens ALL DAY LONG. People have given up and moved on as evidenced by the rare full lobby. This time of day at the start of the updated lobby there'd be no delay to jump in one, now - 3 or 4 tries and then it's 3 other people. If I keep hitting join and back out, eventually I'll catch a group just getting back and have a 12-14 game. I'm not spending 20 minutes for .05 points by beating 3 other people. That's what EA has turned this into.
