Tour or Pro skill level?

When it comes to online play. Which one do you prefer to play and why?

For me I prefer Tour skill level over Pro skill level. (Again this is my opinion. I've put over 446 hours into this game and I've played plenty of both skill levels.)

To me Tour skill level is superior over Pro for these reasons:
1. In Tour, when hitting drives and Irons, the tracer line pre shot doesn't include the wind nor do you get full vision of where it lands. Therefore you have to calculate the wind into the shot which makes your shot more unique compared to others.

2. When you are trying to Fade or Draw the ball there is more technique you have to add into your swing (Just like real life) when it comes to joystick angle. If your angle on the swing isn't accurate, yes you get penalized for it. But if you perfect it, you get a beautiful Fade or Draw shot. In pro, you don't need to angle your joystick to get a perfect Fade or Draw so there would be no penalty for a bad swing.

3. In Tour, when putting, you don't get an imaginary line to guide your put in without any personal calculation at all. (Why would you need a guide to help you putt?)

4. In Tour, when landing in Rough, you get a bad lie which would make it hard to get an accurate shot next. In pro, there are not bad lies in rough terrain and almost the equivalent of Fairway lies...

5. In Tour, you can still utilize a beautiful realistic spin using wind and arch to guide your ball. In Pro, you can manually put a spin on the ball mid air which at max spin makes an unrealistic spin

I just got my friend the game to play with and he has had the game for 1 week and prefers Tour over Pro for the exact same reasons I have. "There's no skill reward in Pro with unrealistic physics. Pro just seems for people that want to be lazy when playing the game"

When switching back and forth from both skill levels it messes with your gameplay because each skill has entirely different play styles.
So I just stay with the one that "I feel" caters more to the natural golf gamer.

Look, I've hit 5 or 6 Hole in Ones on Pro. After the first Hole in One I've lost all excitement because it's so easy to get it with the manual spin advantage you get.
I've only hit 1 Hole in One on Tour mode. And without a doubt I would be just as excited as I was the first time if I ever hit another.

Anytime I see someone chip in from a sand trap on Pro. I giggle about it because I did the same thing last hole.

People on forums are claiming that on console, Pro mode is more popular than Tour mode. But I don't get a reason. I just get "Pro is just better than Tour" which isn't a reason, it's an opinion.

Tell me your preferred skill level when playing online. Why it's your preferred. And how many hours you've put into the game.

Prefer pro match play because matches last longer and it's easier to find an opponent. Tour is more fun to play but winning 5&4 without challenge or having an opponent quit after two holes isn't. Regardless of views on what is a more 'pure' golf experience, most people suck at tour and won't play it.

If I want more of a strategic experience I'll enter the tour and sim tournaments. If I was doing private matches with friends I'd prefer tour or sim, but that's not really your question.

  • I prefer a setting that incorporates aspects of sim/tour/pro.  No zoom from sim.  Rest of tour settings.  Then no shot shaping.

That said for canned multiplayer I like Tour a little better but will pick from game mode/courses more so than pro/tour.

I do agree with your reasons 1/3.  I don’t use the spin you mention in 5 anyway.  I also don’t like the mechanism you mention for 2. In real life I don’t change my swing to draw/fade.  I change my setup.  This game does not accurately reflect that and the shot shaping in game is silly.  I turn that off when I play career.    Finally,  I don’t really see any significant difference between pro/tour when it comes to impact from lies/rough.  I don’t really think ANY game mode really provides any challenge in this aspect.

I’ve got 450 or so hours in since release.

  • @GhillieGuy I've played 1,000 hours and I prefer Pro over Tour. Ultimately, I prefer Sim mode over all of them though. I just find tour on low wind super boring so at least Pro adds the ability to spin it in and drive lots of par 4s. Even though it wasn't part of the question, l still prefer sim the most because it requires the most skill to master.

You probably sum it up really good. Gazak is one of the top player on PS5 and he goes like this on Match play Season 11:

    Pro 73 - 0 - 1

    Tour 21 - 0 - 2

    Sim 38 - 0 - 0

I've always looked at a positive if your opponent quits the match after you are dominating them.

You get a win for them leaving and move up the leaderboards for it. If you make them quit because you're outplaying them that's just more proof that you have validity in your skill.
If it was a landslide match in my favor. I'd prefer them to leave the game early for an easy win. I know they might not be having fun, and I'm also not because I don't have a competition.
The proof is in the pudding. That's not a bad thing...

To be fair. Out of the last 100 games I've played online, I've only had 6-9 people leave.

I do agree that most people suck at Tour. Because new players are a custom to the pro skill, (because Pro is the entry level skill in the game).
That may be the reason why Pro is more populated if it actually is?
