Wind speed and direction no accurate

You referring to the random shot dispersion? Yeah that has to go.

I don't like the way the game will sometimes change club when you change shot-type and vice versa, as well as shot type changes resetting shot-shaping. There have been occasions that I've realised after hitting the ball that something like this has happened and so given a rather different outcome to what I'd planned and I slightly wonder if this may have happened here...

Laying up on a par 3 like this seems an unusual decision though. Using shot-shaping to bring the ball in from left to right is probably the best way to get close from your tee shot going by your description I think.

Longer irons cut through the wind a lot better as they don’t gain as much trajectory therefore not impacted as much through wind. I have been caught out by this a few times. 

You then have elevation to contend with aswell, pace of the greens, up slope or downslope

theres no chance the wind is even close to being accurate in this game, a 2mph holding my ball up for 10+ yards on a knockdown show isnt gonna happen, the the same 2mph wind blowing out, with a finesse shot, taking the ball 10-15 yards past my target (even on a club down, up hill lie)

then the cross winds are even worse, especially with higher wind speeds.

Ive found it to be pretty consistent, i use green grids to count how far i have to move the marker and it gets me pretty close each time. Its only when the wind tops 15mph that there are some issues, which is consistent with normal golf. You need to be in a position where your swing is consistent as well, mine is usually between 99 and 100% with a slow and slight overswing compensating for each other. 

FWIW i count 2 squares per MPH of wind with a normal approach and 1 square per MPH of wind for a finesse shot. For pitches i just move it by feel, ive not actually worked out the maths behind it yet. I haven't worked out the exact maths for a trailing or head wind yet so i do that by feel too, bear in mind that each different club will behave differently in the air so some clubs are going to be impacted way more than others by the wind. 

This is playing on tour mode where once the shot is hit its hit. 

I'm constantly playing sim mode now, but reading the wind I don't understand - so with elevation the colour of the arrow changes from white, orange & red, but the win doesn't change t let you know how severe it is, anyone got info on if this is a bug, or there is a way to read it?

I'll add that reading greens with the above or below works for me, but it doesn't make sense - ok the balls below where I stand, but that doesn't explain the break of the rest of the green, so a light insight into this would be nice too.

I'm getting most of my putts, but some just break differently from the initial above or below reading, even if my swing is clean.

That's my approach to it:

Wind:

From 1-10 MPH

Headwind: + MPH in Yards (Wind 5 MPH = + 5 Yards)

Tailwind: - MPH in Yards (Wind 5 MPH = - 5 Yards)

From 11+ MPH  I calculate times 1.5

Headwind: + MPH in Yards (Wind 12 MPH = + 18 Yards or more because of Backspin)

Tailwind: - MPH in Yards (Wind 15 MPH = - 18 Yards)

Elevation:

3 Ft = 1 Yard

Up 9 Ft = + 3 Yards

Down 9 Ft = - 3Yards

Up to AI strength (difficulty) 90 I managed very good approach shots with it in career mode. I'm currently playing on difficulty 95 and need to fine-tune it a bit.

For Siedwind i also count the aquares like @theycagednon did.

Another tip:

- Go into the challenges and do the approach challenges or single player with mulligan function.

- Hit every shot with every club to maximum length.

- Make a note of how far the ball flies and make a note of about 5 shots.

Then you know approximately how much your shot deviates from the distance specification and you can also add these yards if you want to hit a certain point.

Of course, you then also have to consider whether the ball will roll or backsppin. You can also make a note of this when doing your test swings.

This should give you a list of the distances and characteristics of your clubs and shots.

Just played in 15mph winds..Bizarre!...No way a driver should be affected by the wind as soon as the ball is hit. Wind takes effect when the ball is losing speed at maximum height. I wonder if anyone at EA actually plays golf?

Thought I would chime in here because I play golf in a location that is windy a lot. We play many rounds per year in 25-35 mph winds. I haven't played EA PGA Tour much yet  in windy conditions, so not sure yet just how well they have modelled the physics of it or whether what you observed is remotely realistic, but a few things to consider.

Into a strong headwind. 

Using the same club, you will hit it further, and sometimes significantly so, by swinging shorter and slower. Reason: your ball trajectory is lower and you put less backspin on the ball which is more important than the initial ball speed off the clubface. Also, it's crucial you hit the ball straight and don't put a draw or fade spin on it. You will lose the ball way off line if you've got any sidespin on it and very quickly. 

Sidewind. If you really want to find the fairway off the tee with your drives consistently, you need to work the ball with the spin that opposes the wind direction. Hit a draw/hook for a left-to-right wind to "hold the line" and vice-versa. You lose distance but it's almost always worth it to maintain control. If you instead try to ride the wind, the end result is very unpredictable both in terms of direction and distance. 

Putting. Significant winds have to be taken into account! Steep downhill putts on moderately fast greens (which we have in my location) are a nightmare with a strong tailwind. Strong crosswinds on putts will affect how much they break. 

It would be nice if one of the EA developers could comment on just how much they modelled wind effect physics.

The nonsensical response of the ball to the wind makes any course where there is wind (which is a lot of them) completely devoid of fun to play.

And hey, EA, VIDEOGAMES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUN.

Also, still playing on Arcade/Easy/Easy mode, and thanks to things like the utterly incompetent ball/ wind physics, still can't stay under par. Thanks for robbing this experience of fun.

you just need to practice man.   I find it to be pretty consistent.  but I mean you have to take into account things like distance,  height,   arc with what club you are using,  spin,  etc... I've been playing EA Golf Games since 1986 on the computer.   And besides the using a controller instead of a 3 click,  and the random left to right the ball goes,   it feels just like the old games.  That classic EA Sports play control and feel.

Also the more you play the more you will remember how certain holes play.   Thats another factor.  This is a video game you have to learn the physics they can't mimic real life.
