@linuxPigPen In metric, one milliliter of water occupies one cubic centimeter, weighs one gram, and requires one calorie of energy to heat up by one degree centigrade - which is 1 percent of the difference between its freezing point and its boiling point. An amount of hydrogen weighing the same amount has exactly one mole of atoms in it. Whereas in the American system, the answer to "How much energy does it take to boil a room-temperature gallon of water?" is "Go f*ck yourself", because you can't directly relate any of those quantities.
@MAGICDAVESHROOMAwww....hugs water bottle.....the wind is howling out here right now...its freezing out there~~ i really do hope spring comes soon~~~ bbrrrrr.....
@linuxPigPen I am a creature that needs warmth~~~ so i don't like the cold that much. Or maybe its cause i stayed in a really crap student house one year and had almost froze to death...i mean the olive oil in the kitchen froze in that broken house!! I was never the same after....
- linuxPigPen6 years agoSeasoned Ace@PowerToss Yes it was an Aussie band who sang that memorable hit "I Would Walk 806 Kilometers. And who can forget that wonderful East German musical "Hedwig and the Angry Two Point Five Centimeters"?
- linuxPigPen6 years agoSeasoned Ace@Perfume-shroom92 How cold does the winter get there?
Scottish, not Aussie.
Personally I'm in favour of metric over imperial, the only thing it doesn't work for is the calendar.
- @linuxPigPen Seems to change all the time. That year in that broken house, it did went down to -5 degrees probably. I know its not as cold as over there. But in a crap house, it was the most miserable time of my life. Usually it hovers around 0-1 if its a good ish winter~~
- linuxPigPen6 years agoSeasoned Ace@MAGICDAVESHROOM I drove through Canada once awhile back and all their gas stations had signs that said although their gas prices looked higher we were getting a good deal because they were quoting in Imperial gallons. I call BS. 🙂
- linuxPigPen6 years agoSeasoned Ace@Perfume-shroom92 Believe it or not even down here in the deep south, we do occasionally get down to -5C. When I lived in New York, we went down to below 0 F. I don't even want to think what that would be in C.
- @linuxPigPen I don't want to think what that would be in C either....i used to like the cold~~ sigh.... now i am just shivering~ ahh.... give me a warm room any day~~
I have always found it confusing that a US gallon is smaller than an imperial gallon, the USA's🇺🇸 measurement system was copied from the UK,s🇬🇧.
Petrol in the is now sold in litres as it is supposed to look cheaper than the price per gallon.
