I appreciate you taking the time to respond.  After doing some digging online I noticed this wasn't a new issue.  Although the solutions posted in these forums seemed mostly useless.

I did end up uninstalling the game and reinstalling, which definitely did NOT fix the issue.  My game progress wasn't lost, however, the two items I wanted to purchase were gone from the shop.  Luckily I had this game installed on another android phone, and was able to make the purchases there.

I actually found a solution to this issue by loading a different game that is correctly bound to the Google Pay system (in my case Hearthstone).  When I went back to PvZ2, the Google Pay shop worked again.

It seems that there's an underlying bug with the way PvZ2 is tied to Google Pay.  Considering that this bug affects the player's ability to make payments, and the level of effort us customers have to take to resolve this, this should be a Critical bug EA!

[WORKAROUND] SOLUTION (someone else please confirm): Load an android game/app that uses the Google Pay system and click on an item for payment.  Cancel the payment before making a purchase.  Reload PvZ2 and retry making a payment.

  • Please DO NOT uninstall and reinstall the game as this old bug, which has been around for years, is not likely to be fixed by this action, it only increase the chance for your game saved progress to be corrupted.

IT is a bug EA should have made PopCap to focus and fix a long time ago rather than implementing new features which are not user friendly and ruining a once enjoyable game.

  • @padishar12 I tried your solution, but unfortunately it did not work for me. It is weird, I'm able to make purchases on other games but this one. I can't imagine we are the only ones having this issue and EA is next to impossible to contact to fix this issue. Only silver lining is the amount of money I've saved from being unable to purchase new plants and coins.
  • I have found a solution for Android devices not involving EA. I closed the game, went to the Google Payments center, and cleaned up my payment methods and addresses. Apparently that worked... when I fired up the game, the store had no issues.

    1. Close game.

    2. Visit pay.google.com.

    3. Click on the hamburger menu and select "Payment Methods" or "Addresses."

    4. Delete any outdated methods of payment or addresses.

    5. Restart game.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for me. I've removed my outdated credit card methods, but the issue with 'Unable to complete purchase' is still there. I think this is really a problem with EA / PvZ2 not having a good connection with Google Pay or something.

Thanks for the info, cleaning up payment methods finally fixed the problem for me and I was able to purchase Witch Hazel tonight for $2.99 👍
