Are you using Apple device by any chance?
I have similar experience a few times myself but the fault is intermittent and cannot be replicated at will.
The long running PVZ2 game host ZackScott has exactly the same experience and this is recorded on this most recent show 1154. I put a link below just in case any CM/PopCap devs are interested.
