At the time, you would have been offered 100 gems for registering your email address.
EA doesn't send players emails about the game or rewards to players that registered their email addresses, but it is a quick and easy way to restore a missing account without the correct player id number.
Tap on the cloud icon, tap the register email button and enter the email address that you gave EA and they will send you a unique code to that email address.
If I do that now, will it not save the current progress? What I’m trying to do is get my years of progress back. Or am I SOL? It would really suck to have to start over as I had plants that now you have purchase and plants that were maxed out for upgrades. I’ve played this game for over 7 years

It should restore your old account with the original player id number, which i have no doubt you will immediately screenshot and keep safe.
That is, assuming that you did actually sign up for EA's email registration scheme.
There are only two ways to recover a missing account, one is through the email registration scheme and the other is through the EA HELP CENTER, but they insist on having the correct player id number to recover it from the backup servers.
