Problems with ads: which are inefficient way to get revenue

Rudely awaken with this ad requirement and to pay blood money to not get ads .  

This is poorly explained and basically says I have to pay to use the “free game”.  After spending over 10 years playing the game and buying hundreds of dollars worth of upgrades this will really damp in my desire to use this game.  Also, the idea of paying for upgrades or spiffs is pretty much out the window so any more money for this game is pretty much gone.

While discussed in other threads, why don’t the developers just make us buy a plant once a month or some kind of spiff instead of paying money to get rid of ads?  This option should be clearly explained and just paying to get rid of ad should be the last resort.   Making someone pay to not have ads greatly diminishes the perceived value versus buying some kind of spiff or feature once a month.

also, the games presented in the ads are comically bad slop that they have been showing for years
