Why does the game crash and automatically return to the home screen at the begin

What is the model of your iPad and what version of IOS are you using?

I have been playing this game on my iPad for a year without any problems. This situation started to occur in the last six months, and it has become increasingly frequent. Today, I was just browsing levels, and it automatically quit the game. I was wondering if there might be a reason for the low device configuration, but I’m not sure 

Your iPad is relatively new so I do not believe it is the problem. I play on a range of iPhones and this works without crashing even with the 6S I bought in 2015!  Have you a spare iPhone you can install the game just to have a check? 

Also, if you have not register your email, I strongly suggest you should do it now (and get 25 free gems) for if anything else goes wrong in the future, you have a better chance of recovering your progress onto another deivce.

Thank you for your reply! I tried to play this game on my iPhone, and it was very smooth. The software has not crashed so far. However, why is there no sound when I play on my phone... I have restarted the game, but there is still no sound. It is ridiculous...

And again why does my iPad suddenly have this problem? I called Apple technical support, and they said it was probably caused by a bug in the game, and suggested me to wait for the game developer to fix this bug. But I have played for more than a year without any problems, and I haven't made any major changes. Why did this suddenly appear? Is it possible that the game has been played for a long time and the game progress document is too large?

I have both sound effect and in game music playing on my iphones so this could be a setting issue.

Please check your phone is not set to silence.  (top slider switch on left edge is on the up position)

Please check the PVZ2 in game audio settings. (Music and Sound FX adjusted to the right)  

AS for game being played a long time, some files do increase but I would expect IOS would have room to accommodate and if resources are low, I would expect the system prompt a message to notify the user.

I corrected my statement. I just played it again on my phone and also crash, quit automatically at the same level!! It's surprisingly consistent with the phenomenon on iPad. Why is that? Is there something wrong with my game account??

Yes, my phone is not in silent mode and the game sound is also on. In fact, all the games installed on my phone have no sound when playing, but listening to music or running other apps have sound. My phone was bought in 2020, which is not very old, and it doesn't lag during normal use.

Could you give more details on what you were playing when it crash?  Was this a world level and if so which one?  What plants were you using?  If these are just standard F2P world plants I might be able to give it a try on my phone and see if the fault can be replicated. 

There is a possibility some data corruption on your game saved  file if the same issue shows up on both of your devices and other players do not experiencing the problem.

As with regards to all the games installed on your phone have no sound when playing, this somehow suggests the fault is not with the games but the device, maybe music and sound effect are sampled and handled by different hardware (ICs) on the phone thus music is ok while in game sound effect are muted, but this is only me guessing. 

Thank you for your kind reply. I have encountered this situation in many levels, such as in the Ancient Egypt world, the last level to fight Zombot Sphinx-inator. I also encountered it when playing the Penny Pursuit world. Today, even when I just browse different worlds, the game crashed. But these are only occasional occurrences.

The second level in the Modern Day world crashed every time these days. The plants I chose were twin sunflower, iceberg lettuce, cherry bomb, jalapeno, solar sage, and tiger grass. At first, there were not many zombies, and there was no problem when the pace was slow. Usually, when it reached the final stage of white-hot, when the ending music came out, the zombies came out more and more quickly, and my hand movements reached the fastest speed. At this time, the game usually crashed and quit.

Before quitting, my strategy is to constantly plant tiger grass in the fourth grid in front of each row (please see the attached screenshot), and then add plant seeds on the tiger grass in front of the mummified gargantuar and octo zombie. Usually, I don't use cherry bombs or jalapenos. At the same time, before entering the white-hot stage, I plant sunflowers in the last grid of each row, and plant a tiger grass in front of the sunflower. I often turn on fast forward. I hope I made myself clear.

My game saved file should be uploaded and stored in the cloud, so how could it be damaged for no reason? It's very strange. If that's the case, how can I fix it? I don't want to give up this profile because I've played it for a long time.
