[Feedback] Why Plants vs. Zombies 3 Monetization Method Does Not Work
The Problem With Plants vs. Zombies 3 Monetization Method
This post is an extended version of the Plants vs. Zombies 3 monetization section of the post made by user HeyThere1mJay, who has written a very detailed document about all the problems present in Plants vs. Zombies 3.
One of my biggest concerns with the latest installment of the franchise is its terrible monetization method, which is based on coins and power-ups. This means that there is really no reason or motivation to spend money on microtransactions, due to offering content that can be obtained for free by completing levels and with daily rewards. The only reason to spend money on microtransactions is to speed up progress, although that is not why most buyers do it.
Taking a look at the monetization method of Plants vs. Zombies 2, this offers exclusive content (premium plants), which cannot be obtained for free. This is a reason to buy them, since they cannot be unlocked any other way.
The player can complete the game using only the unlockable plants in Adventure Mode, but if they find it too difficult or just want more variety and try a new plant, they can buy a plant for a relatively low price. Some Plants vs. Zombies 3 levels are practically impossible to beat without power-ups due to the terrible level design and the absurd number of zombies that can appear.
The terrible level design may be because the game wants the player to buy more power-ups to beat them, but there are players (for example, small children) who could not spend money on microtransactions, and because of this they might stop playing, and players who might spend money would simply wait to receive daily rewards, since, as I said, microtransactions do not offer any type of exclusive content.
How can we fix this? It is very simple, offering unique content through microtransactions just like Plants vs. Zombies 2, and there will be more reasons to spend money on them. The easiest way to offer exclusive content is to let the player choose their plants in each level, in order to sell premium plants.
Make it so the player can beat the game without using power-ups. A game where you have to pay for microtransactions (or wait a long time to receive daily rewards) to complete it is not fun, and players might abandon it after a while.
The monetization method of Plants vs. Zombies 2, despite being a bit abusive, worked. It offered good content for low prices, and Plants vs. Zombies 3 does the complete opposite. It offers little content for relatively high prices, which, I repeat, has no reason to be purchased unless the player wants to complete the game as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading. If you do not agree with something, you can write it down, it could be very helpful.
