I agree with the point that the matchmaking is kinda off sometimes, but it has always been like this.
My first encounter with a Rank 50 was on the first season, when I was in Silver league.
I obviously got crushed. Too many legendaries, and some interactions that I didn't understood back then.
This system has to change, there is no doubt about it, but the fact here is that it has been like this from quite some time now, so I don't think they are going to change this soon.
We just have to deal with it. Acept that the matchmaking is pretty bad, and try to take precautions to try to improve it a little bit.
On my case, for example, I try to avoid playing early in the morning, since it is when I face the most amount of low league players.
I try to play on the evening or late at night, since is when I have the better odds to face another high league player.
Try to identify this "patters" for you. This will NOT guarantee that you are never going to face a Rank 50 like, ever again, but it should reduce the odds.

The ranking definitely needs to improve and/or better rewards if you face significantly higher ranked players. Should probably have an option to check off if you are OK facing significantly higher ranked players or else you are OK to wait in queue longer.
I have a theory about Casual mode. I suspect that both players are not playing Casual mode (otherwise why would low rank players concede against higher level ranked players they face), meaning one can be playing Ranked while one is playing Casual mode. I also suspect Casual mode lifts the normal ranking rules on the player looking for a match. For example, if Ranked match rules are they immediately search for an opponent +/- 5 levels, I think Casual does away with that and just selects the first opponent that comes along on the opposing side.
If my hypothesis for Casual mode is true, it's doing no favours for the match ranking of Ranked mode.

- 8 years agoThat hypothesis is incorrect. It was actually an idea I brought up to the team in order to cut wait times and do a better job with matchmaking. But I was told 1. They don't think people would like it and 2. It would be illegal for them to do and not let us know.

I guess I'm a little surprised people then that people concede so frequently out of the shute to ULs/vastly higher level ranked players if they've nothing to lose in Casual Mode. It's their choice, but still surprised.
