I think you've made excellent points about the possible problems & with the greatest of respect to @spIash_damage who I know is excited about this change, I have to confess I'm not convinced this is a good thing.
The lag should definitely be addressed separately regardless, because although 12 vs 12 TT was the worst place for it, it's not the only place it's happening. In TT we were already having game problems with people not bothering to play the objectives because they wanted to stay at the back sniping or warp around spawn points getting kills & I can't see that changing.
In smaller teams, games are only going to be successful if there's a good selection of characters being played from the different classes, and if there's something you need or want to work on that's going to present problems.
I guess this is a case of let's play & see, but unless you get a lobby full of experienced, TEAM-SPIRITED players, I think this is going to be difficult & frustrating most of the time.
@ToastedSarnie So you think adding people to a server makes them play the objective in a more team-minded manner?
Let’s make it 24 v 24 and see how many revives you have and how fewer snipers there are.
😊👍
8 v 8 could be great fun with more action but I digress.... what do I know?! 🤡
EDIT: I guess I’m uber frustrated that we finally have a chance to merge the division of this community but because people are too close-minded and the way this has been presented, we’ll just leave myself and the other part of the community that enjoys TV (deathmatch) modes out/isolated!?
- 6 years ago@spIash_damage Ouch! Don't be mean! You know perfectly well I wouldn't want to exclude anyone, least of all like-minded PvZ veterans. And 8 vs 8 could be fun, if everyone played their part in the team & team-swapping didn't exist. At the moment though that's a big issue & having fewer players can mean having even less playing the objectives. In 12 vs 12, it's not a critical issue if a couple of people are at the back sniping & making no move to attack, but in 8 vs 8 that makes it harder.
But I'm not going to further argue my point, because I'm not saying I'm right & you're wrong. I like your views & positivity & it really doesn't matter what I think, because as I've posted elsewhere, I'm done with PvP.- 6 years ago
@ToastedSarnie I should have clarified that only the first question was @ mentioned to you. The rest was rhetorical, at best.
I truly wanted to know whether you thought more people = greater team play but in now way am I trying to come off condescending.
The way 8v8 was rolled out, it was doomed for failure! I just wish people might slow down and think about day 1 turf vs today. No mention of that, either???
EDIT: I’m more than happy to stick to myself on more topics moving forward, if my advice is overlooked and taken as being mean. Not one single forum regular even acknowledged what I said? That’s odd.
- 6 years ago@spIash_damage Sorry 😪 I don't really think you're mean or that you should keep your views to yourself because they're perfectly valid. I'm upset - I didn't like the idea that you'd think I (or most of us) would want to exclude a large part of the community. No excuse for ranting, but I've had a whole bunch of team-swapping, stomping games, coupled with idiots who've also enjoyed taunting, because apparently playing on a team of 7, playing "those" zombies & annihilating 4 plants at first base spawn every game is something to boast about.
I'm miserable about so many things with the game & I'm done. Truly, sadly, utterly.

@ToastedSarnie don't give up on PvP yet! Maybe take a break for a bit, and wait for more improvements, especially for healing/reviving, but don't give up on it completely!
@spIash_damage I'll be reading through stuff more here in a bit. A lot of this was after I was in bed and am catching up now, traffic jam made me get to work later than normal, luckily I always leave early so am not late but did lose a lot of my 'pre-work browsing time'.

So after checking things here and playing a few games last night I'm still not 100% sure if 8v8 is better or worse. The worst match I've had in any PvZ shooter was last night and was in TT defending goopy gully as a foot soldier, but I can't automatically blame 8v8 for that as I don't have enough data to make an empirical conclusion.
What I did notice is that 8v8 feels empty with the huge maps in BfN, especially Loggy Acres. Dropping to 2/3 the number of players is significant and apparently getting mixed reception. I want to play more to see how it feels before making a decision. If the lag some people are having problems with was fixed for the matches separately from player count, we'd be able to make a more informed decision.
Basically, I want a larger sample size before calling it good or bad.
- 6 years ago@spIash_damage At the very least it increases the chance of having some nice team members. With only 8 people on a side, you will be feeling the effects of someone not playing with the team even more.
What I would do is reward team play much... much.... muuuuch more. Truly nothing is encouraging you to not just sit back and rack in the kills because thats actually how you get the most EXP/rewards. Can we really blame the people playing just for kills??? Why shouldn't they when the game practically punishes them for trying to assist the team, capture the objective, or for playing supports.
Just my current take on things.. The problem for me wasn't ever that there were too much players in Turf Takeover, but things were just crazy unbalanced... and yes lag... oh the lag. Which... it is still laggy and unbalanced. Team balance too, is obviously a huge issue which I don't think 8 v 8s are helping.
If a ranked mode ever happened, 8 v 8 would be nice there. Buuut being things are so unbalanced rn, I'm not so sure I'd want that... guess we once again just have to wait and see what happens.
