Alien Sunflower question

Can someone tell me how she is suppose to work?  Sometimes I shoot the ground and the spores do a small amount of AOE damage.  Sometimes they do not.  Everytime I shoot a zombie it does some initial damage and the sometimes it does a small bit of AOE damage and sometimes it does not.  How is this class suppose to work and what am I doing wrong?

    You're doing nothing wrong. The truth is that Alien flower needed:

    - more ammo

    - more fira rate

    - less damaging bullets

    Anyway the cloud size and duration is pretty meh before upgrades, so unlock upgrades first.

    Besides that, never shoot at people feet (or if you do, you must hit them and not the ground) as she deals more damage with direct hits compared to clouds. So be accurate and try take direct hits.

    Anyway, Alien flower even after the buff seems the only flower in weak spot. I suggest you to play her only in herbaul assault or suburbination and just for crowd controlling objectives..

    (which anyway Electro Flower seems do the same but better..)

    After all the upgrades she is my favorite sun flower.

    Alien Sunflower is best for crowd control. Use her with the dark flower ability only. Best for capturing objectives and not for death match type modes.

    Aim at the ground and shoot as fast as you can. The damage stacks. Only shoot at the targets when you have clear shots. Laying down a dark flower beside enemies/ yourself will insure direct hits for you.

    Upgrades highly suggested:

    Speed increase
    Spore duration increase
    Spore area increase

    Good luck!

    I'm a beast with her Alien Variant. I am practically always a top player in kills when I play as her.

    I can show you how to play as her and show you she's not weak whatsoever if you have issues =]

    I didn't mean she was weak, I was really unsure of how her spores worked and what triggered them.  They seem inconsistent.  I think after I get the upgrades I will notice a difference.

    You will notice a difference, but not major. You don't need the upgrades to be a beast.

    Do not try to land direct hits, unless you're facing someone one on one or see zombies in a fixed position. Don't focus on direct shots due to your limited ammo. Also, missed direct shots will also negate your spore damage. Use direct shots as a last resort or one on one encounters

    Aim for the ground. Use the spores. Damage stacks and enemies will be unaware where it's coming from. See a group of zombies? Lay a dark flower next to you and use your heal beam on the dark flower. Keep shooting at the ground where they stand. Shoot as fast as you can. You can take out several zombies his way.

    I don't get people that say to outright avoid direct hit, just aim for the feet like with peashooter so that you still get the splash if you miss. Either you can at least hit the splash or  they're above you and you are forced to go for direct hit anyway.

    yeah that's a great point as well, ill just level her up and aim at feet.  I think the great thing about this game is a lot of the classes have so many different ways they can be played that there is almost always more than one good way to play them.
