Another Kind of Direct X Error

I don't think this is like any of the other Direct X Errors. I believe this is different.

I'm on a laptop, and since I'm using PC I can go change the game's settings. (PROF_SAVE_profile)

I changed something called GstRender.OverallGraphicsQuality from 5 to 1 (I think it was 5 originally) and also GstRender.FieldOfView  from 70 to 95 (may not be the cause of this problem, but you never know).

After I changed these things, after I play the game for a little while I crash and get the following error message:

DirectX function "Dx11Renderer::tryMap" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED ("The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver upgrade for the video card has occured.") GPU: " ", Driver: (15.201.1101-150806a-188821C-HP). This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers. Also, make sure you have a supported graphics card with at least 512 MB.

I'm not sure if I have to update my drivers or if this is the cause of changing the settings, but even after I switched the GstRender.OverallGraphicsQuality to 5 again, I kept getting those messages.

If you cannot help me, I will be GLAD if you tell me what EA's support email is.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

Now it has gone to the point where I can even launch Garden Warfare 2. Anyone can help please?

I can still launch it.

Can you post your DXDiag too:

    http://answers.ea.com/t5/STAR-WARS-The-Old-Republic/Guide-Posting-a-DxDiag/td-p/4832663

Reinstalling the GPU driver fresh is something I'd definitely try.

If you do any overclocking to your GPU, reduce those clocks to factory defaults.

I do not believe those two edits you made the prof file are causing or related to this error.

Make sure your dedicated GPU is forced on:

    http://help.ea.com/en/article/setting-up-a-graphics-card-gaming-profile/

Try repairing from Origin on the game's icon.

  • I am seeing the same basic error since the 1.04 update.

    * I have SLI but tried single gpu and the game still crashes often (totally random). Already tried several clean installs of various drivers.

    * Sometimes the game will run fine for an hour+, other times it crashes within minutes.

I posted about it in another thread...

After the 1.04 Update GW2 is now crashing for me as well, worked fine before the update for ~13 hours of play.

Game will load up and within minutes of getting into the backyard or an mp match it will crash, sometimes hard lock other times ctd (with the above mentioned dx error).

No other games/benches crash (just did a bunch of testing that was far more demanding) and nothing else has been updated or installed (other than the GW2 update 1.04).

I have already verified my dx, no issues there. I already reinstalled the vcdredist but that was not the issue. I also did a repair on the game, no dice. Checked other Origin games as well. No overlays are in use (Origin in-game is disabled). Not temp related.

Pretty irritated with this too as we just bought the pc version (after playing the trial) and we also own it on PS4 (we wanted the pc version in order to play at native 4k).

We have GW1 on three platforms and GW2 on two, die hard fans.

Any suggestions are welcome, I am an avid pc enthusiast but even then we can all overlook something simple.

    PC:

    i7 4790k

    SLI GTX 980 TI

    16gb DDR3

    Win10 Pro 64

    Play at 4K/60.

    Thank you.

  • Sorry I didn't reply, I was busy with life and other things.

I could only post my DXDiag for now, hopefully I can do the other things soon.

You may try updating the drivers to the beta version of Crimson here:

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

    -APU

    -Mobile APU

    -A series 8000G

    -Win10 64

Someone recently was concerned about using these "beta" drivers because of stability reasons.  I feel these drivers are pretty stable (I mean AMD drivers in my experience haven't been rock solid anyways).. but I use these Crimson drivers on my work PC and it's on 24/7 and I've never seen a crash with them.  They aren't all that fresh out of the oven either, they have some age on them at this point.

  • Thanks! You solved my problem, and I don't crash anymore.

However, the crash still happens a bit after I alt tab out of the game. But if I don't I'm fine.

I'll put this discussion as solved. If you want to help me out more, go ahead. The crash is the same message.

  • I also figured out the that the crash can be triggered if my fps drops to a very low rate. When I start up a game or after a game I'm a bit laggy, so I let my game "cool down" by looking up into the sky and waiting until the game turns a bit smoother, then I can play.

I figured this out as directly after a game I used Husk Hop and my fps dropped really fast and then the game crashed.
