The OP is expressing a desire to be able to have more players than the four allowed.
Popcap limit to a group of 4 players because the group can play together on any mode (TT, gnome, subordination, team vanquish) and the server will try to make them in SAME group if possible. So there're too many people, it's hard to make the team balance so has to split them apart, which surely makes the group unhappy since they have to fight each other, instead of playing together.
Also boss hunt only allows maximum 4 players, so extra player will get kick out, and he/she will * off as well.
So with this consideration, maximum 4 players allowed in a group/backyard.
Summary of this, Popcap has a reason for its design. You've to see the big picture to understand and figure out the reason.
