Birthdayz Festival - My Character Challenge Guide (Kernel Corn)!

Hi everyone,

In this thread I will be providing my character challenge tips for Kernel Corn. By completing all of his challenges, without any additional bulbs you earn during this time, you will get 15 bulbs, 10 for all of the challenges and 5 more as a reward for finishing all of his challenges. I'm sure that those bulbs will significantly help towards getting those final Scientist costumes and Steam Blaster. If you want advice on completing Corn's challenges, need help, or simply want to look (I don't mind), feel more than free to look here.

Kernel Corn's character challenges are as follows:

  • Earn 5,000 XP as Kernel Corn.
  • Land 3,500 Successful Hits with Cob Busters.
  • Vanquish 30 Enemies Affected by Butter Beacon.
  • Deal 3,500 Husk Hop Damage.
  • Land 30 Direct Hits with Shuck Shot.

Just note that because Kernel Corn gets a legendary upgrade that can be equipped (Shogun-Guard) this could affect the completion of some of the challenges. So for each challenge, I will suggest whether to use the legendary upgrade for each challenge (for if you own the upgrade), and why you should or should not use it.

Other than that, have a great day and stay safe! 🙂🙂

  • The character challenges for Kernel Corn, and my tips for them, are as follows:

Earn 5,000 XP as Kernel Corn.

    • Use the "Levelling Up" upgrade if you want to complete this challenge faster. You gain 10% more XP from any source of XP that grants more than 5 normally. If you would receive 5 or less XP at a time, the rounding makes you lose that extra XP. This works even on Grandmaster 5 characters and characters that need promoting, I believe.
    • It does not matter whether you use Shogun-Guard or not, depends on your playstyle I suppose.
    • 2-3 successful and full games of Ops or Skirmishes (in PvE) should give you the XP needed for this challenge.
    • Open chests in PvE regions, or claim collectibles, if you have not already, as you will gain XP fast this way.
    • In PvP modes, try to get vanquishes when you can as you get a lot of XP this way. Assists, reviving, kill streaks and so on help as well, so try to make the most of opportunities when possible, such as a single revive if there are no enemies around.
    • You simply have to play the game as Kernel Corn to get this challenge. You should complete this challenge before completing the rest, so you shouldn't even have to worry about completing this challenge.

Land 3,500 Successful Hits with Cob Busters.

This requires you to use your primary weapon to land hits and deal damage to enemies. You don't need specific amounts of damage or vanquishes.

Should you use Shogun-Guard with this challenge? No. Despite the extra damage it provides, you simply need to land hits, you don't need to deal a particular amount of damage or vanquishes. Additionally, as it is a different primary weapon, it's possible that (needs confirmation) using this upgrade will not register hits, as the primary for Shogun is not called "Cob Busters".

    GENERAL PvE TIPS

    • As you simply need to hit enemies, it's good to focus on big targets and enemies with high health, so you can land loads of shots on them, and more easily. For this reason, bosses are an excellent choice.
    • For this reason, Ops and Skirmishes are probably your best bet, as there are almost always bosses present Doing or repeating story quests may work out if there is a boss involved as well.
    • You may want to defeat or re-defeat Olds Cool or Major Problem as they have absolute bucketloads of health. Just pour your shots into the bosses and watch your challenge score rack up!
    • Battle chests may also be a viable option, but it is less effective.

    GENERAL PvP TIPS

    • Try and target enemies with more health and/or a bigger hitbox using your Cob Busters primary weapon. This way you are either more likely to land successful hits with them, get more shots in or both.
    • Groups of enemies are also useful to target as you can get more hits in and are less likely to miss your shots.
    • Aim while firing if you need more accurate shots.

    USEFUL UPGRADES

    • Rapid Recob (2 upgrade points), your reload time for Cob Busters is cut in half, allowing you to fire them more often and are less vulnerable while reloading.
    • Super Spin (3 upgrade points), by getting a vanquish, your Cob Buster's rate of fire is increased for a short time, allowing you to land hits faster and, it stacks as well, allowing for a decent increase in fire rate.
    • Mob Cobs (3 upgrade points), your Cob Busters pierce through enemies. This is good as it allows you to hit multiple enemies with the same shot/s. This is especially useful with clustered enemies.

Vanquish 30 Enemies Affected by Butter Beacon. #

For this challenge, you are required to vanquish 30 enemies that you have debuffed with Butter Beacon. It also counts if another Kernel Corn has used Butter Beacon on an enemy and you vanquish them. This challenge should be completed with relative ease as Butter Beacon allows all your attacks and abilities to deal 25% more damage to affected enemies, as well as being able to see enemies through walls. You can vanquish enemies affected by Butter Beacon using either your primary or any ability.

Should you use Shogun-Guard with this challenge? Yes. You deal extra damage and your shots are more accurate, meaning you can vanquish enemies quite easily. The shield is a nice bonus as well.

    GENERAL PvE TIPS

    • Doing this in Private Giddy Park with Al is an effective option, you can wait for a bunch of TV Heads to appear, Butter Beacon the lot, and get as many vanquishes as possible.
    • It is good to use Butter Beacon against low-health enemies, as the extra damage plus their low health makes them super easy to take out.
    • Using it against groups of enemies are also good as you can affect more enemies with the Beacon at once, and hopefully vanquish more as a result.

    GENERAL PvP TIPS

    • Try to focus one enemy, preferably an enemy with lower health, each time you use Butter Beacon. By doing this, you have a higher chance of scoring a Buttered vanquish.
    • Try to focus damaged enemies as well. Easier vanquishes as well.
    • Use your other abilities to your advantage to increase your chances of scoring the vanquish.
    • Remember, the Beacon boosts your damage and allows you to see your enemies through walls. Use this to your advantage.

    USEFUL UPGRADES

    • 20/10 (2 upgrade points), your Butter Beacon has a longer range, meaning you can highlight enemies from further away.
    • Re-Corn-naissance (3 upgrade points), vanquishing an enemy affected by Butter Beacon reduces its cooldown time significantly, allowing you to use your Butter Beacon more frequently.

Deal 3,500 Husk Hop Damage. #

You need to deal a total of 3,500 damage (or more) using Husk Hop, you are not required to deal all of this damage at once, or get vanquishes with it. Using Shogun-Guard does not affect this challenge. Use your Butter Beacon to improve the damage you deal as well.

    GENERAL PvE TIPS

    • It's handy to perform this challenge against bosses, as they have a lot of health and you can deal a lot of damage with it. Additionally, they are easier to hit directly for even more damage.
    • It's also good to perform Husk Hop upon groups of enemies. For this reason, Ops and Skirmishes are good for completing this challenge.
    • Battle chests can work for this as well, but are slightly ineffective.

    GENERAL PvP TIPS

    • Try to use your Husk Hop upon groups of enemies to deal loads of damage at once. Use your Butter Beacon if you have time beforehand to improve this damage you deal by another 25%.
    • High health enemies are good as you can deal more damage at once, without them being vanquished halfway through your ability.
    • Try not to use your Husk Hop for mobility purposes, if you can, save it for damaging enemies.
    • Use it if an enemy gets in your face or really close to you. Hopefully you can deal lots of damage this way.

    USEFUL UPGRADES

    • Reaping Leap (3 upgrade points), your Husk Hop has a larger area of damage, improving your chance of dealing more damage with Husk Hop, which is also very useful damaging enemies in groups.
    • Hopscotch (3 upgrade points), your Husk Hop damage is increased when dealing direct damage. Good if you manage to directly hit your enemies.

Land 30 Direct Hits with Shuck Shot. #

This requires you to hit an enemy directly and deal full damage with a Shuck Shot, dealing splash damage will not work. The good thing about this is that each separate Shuck (you fire 2 at once) can both count towards this challenge if you hit them directly (needs confirmation). You are not required to earn vanquishes for this challenge. Using Shogun-Guard does not affect this challenge.

    GENERAL PvE TIPS

    • Bosses and groups of enemies are effective targets for this challenge, as bosses are very easy to hit and with groups of enemies, you are more likely to hit at least one of them directly.
    • For this reason, focus Ops and Skirmishes if you can.
    • Giddy Park can also be useful as you can use your Shuck Shots against TV Heads.
    • You can try Battle Chests as well, try to target larger enemies if you do, where possible.

    GENERAL PvP TIPS

    • Focus clusters of enemies if you can, or larger enemies.
    • Aim carefully before you fire once you activate your Shuck Shot.
    • Be careful when you use it, as there is a delay before it is fired.
    • If an enemy gets close to you, you can try to use your Shuck Shot on them, it will be much easier to hit them, and you may vanquish them as well.

    USEFUL UPGRADES

    • Happy Feet (2 upgrade points), when using your Shuck Shot, you get a much significant boost to your movement speed. Excellent for avoiding getting hit while using Shuck Shot.
    • Cornucopia (3 upgrade points), when you get a multi-vanquish with your Shuck Shot, you get a significantly reduced cooldown to your Shuck Shot. It may be hard to pull off, but if you do you will be rewarded for it. Also, it will allow you to use your Shuck Shot more often.

    # Upgrades that help refresh your abilities faster, such as Refreshing ReviveCombo or Critical Blow, can also really help for these challenges, due to being able to use your abilities more frequently.

That's it for now. I hope that this helps! 🙂
