Boss discussion: Giga Torchwood

Giga Torchwood

Bfn description: CAREFUL, HE'S A REAL SPRUCE CANON! That grammar hurts me because someone saw it and said ok.

A gigantic stump like creature with its head producing fire and a right arm shaped into a rotating machine gun made of bamboo. Unlike big stump completely being brown Giga Torchwood has an orwnge tint to his wooden body.

Gw2: Giga Torchwood climbs out of the ground and fires his gun arm into the air twice. Fire Peas, Fire Flowers, Fire Cacti, and Fire Chompers will appear along with some Kernel Corns.

Bfn: Torchwood enters berserk every time he loses a significant amount of health and must be cooled off with balloons that your must throw at him that deal 35 damage if you hit a plant wit theme. 4 balloons every time. He gains wildflowers, sunflowers, and snapdragons.

Powers

Torch Gatling: Fires a rapid barrage of flaming shots from his gun that ignite hit enemies and deal afterburn damage.

Volcano Breath: Breathes fire in front of him to damage and burn enemies. Usually does that when enemies get too close to him.

Big Shot: Charges up a slow-moving but powerful shot that explodes to inflict splash damage and residual burn damage. He grabs and holds his gun arm preparing for the recoil as a the visual cue.

Fire Storm: Fires an airstike of fireballs out of his head, which rain down on enemies. Rounds from this attack explode and inflict fire damage. Usually does this when enemies have a higher ground.

Giga Bash: Punches the area in front of him, dealing damage and knocking enemies back. Usually does that when enemies reach too close to him.

Berzerk : When he is on his last legs, Giga Torchwood may turn his flames blue and the crevices in his body glow. This greatly boosts the damage of all of his abilities and adds "Berzerk" in front of their names (excluding Giga Bash). This effect lasts for about 60 seconds and also boosts up Giga Torchwood's mobility and fire rate.

Inhale: Bfn only. Big stump inhale ability but he breathes fire afterwards.

Health

Easy - 2040 health

Normal - 2720 Health

Hard - 3400 health

CRAAAAAZYY! - 4800 health

Most common boss selection in graveyard ops by the slot machine.

Appears in the backyard and can easily 1v1 zombie bosses and is usually the late man standing of the plant bosses. Is most effective when paired with sunflower queen.

Big shot and the machine gun arm is most likely a reference to Barrett in final fantasy 7.

Shares theme with big stump.

This guy will destroy you in crazy and is even more difficult than gargs on hard as he has almost their crazy HP level. He can cover all ranges and can bombard your position behind cover forcing you out, combine this with afterburn and you have a very menacing wave full of fire variants and hard hitig corns.

His bfn version isn't as threatening. His balloon section is more tedious than difficult and it can be very buggy at times. It also really sucks how he gained the inhale which just feels tacked on for this character. It's also very strange how he is the only character to not be remodeled and is pulled straight from gw2 which is very uncanny. Were they out if time when they added him to the game? It would explain big stumps absence very well.

  • Probably the most effective plant boss in GW2 without being annoying like Super Bean can be. I feel the team took the regular Torchwood from the PvZ tower defense game and made it into a great boss, love this guy on many levels, even if he can be a mean one, especially in his super waves in Ops.

When my one friend used to play and we still needed XP, we'd see how many bosses we could get in the Backyard Battleground at once, I think our record is 8, 4 one each side, and this guy is great for the team when you're a plant as he's a mean one, especially at low health when he turns on the berserk! His damage and firepower is daunting to face, even more so when that flame turns blue!

And 100% agreed. Merging big stump and torchwood into a singular boss in BfN was a mistake. They do share a look, but in GW2 they are very different to face, and they should have kept them as separate bosses. The water balloons do bug out a lot in the elite boss wave, which is a shame.

@Iron_Guard8 Yeah he's easily one of the best bosses in gw2 in being difficult but fair and it's very interesting to see that this what they created out of the very simplistic design of the tower defense Torchwood who was just a support character.

The backyard boss battles were great. It's a shame giddypark and the pve areas removed those dynamic battles and replaced them with TV head and wildflower spawns. He was amazing when paired with sunflower queen because mystics kept him alive for so long.

I'm also surprised that he has the same model from gw2 which is really strange as it means they could've just pulled bigstump as well.
