Can't invite friends in GW2

i cannot invite my friends in game in any way nor can i open the ea in-game overlay (pretty sure these two issues are related) and whenever i click on the invite friends button on the game menu nothing even happens. ive tried disabling the steam overlay (my steam and my ea accounts are linked), clearing the ea cache, opening and closing the game thinking it would eventually work, i even checked if the ea launcher had administrator permissions and i also tried changing to north america east servers but nothing. it doesnt even work if i get invited by my friend and join the game through the invite
