Changes that at least need to be addressed in multiplayer

Hopefully like me, you guys have played the first game, PVZ 1, which was amazing - from the awesome characters to the beautifully and strategically landscaped maps. But as I was playing PVZ 2, there were some problems I personally found to be a little frustrating:

1.) Maps: The themes of the maps are just as comical and visually appealing as the first game; however, the wideness/openness of the new maps makes it feel like that of a "Star Wars Battlefront" map - where you basically run out to the field and start shooting. As specific characters, such as the Soldier or the Cactus, I found it very difficult to reach certain vantage points because there were little-to-none. In the first game characters were able to reach places where most players would not have even thought of attempting to reach- for example, as a Pea Shooter or a Soldier, I could use the "super pea jump" or "rocket boost" to get onto the top of high buildings, mansions, statues, top of playgrounds, etc. that gave them perfect vantage points and that was made the game so fun! Now there is literally none of that; and to add onto those lacking features, there seems to be too many obstacles randomly placed onto the maps - making it even more difficult to hit someone with a shot because a random tree or mini house in the way and adding to the clutter. The  PVZ 1 maps, to me, followed an almost "pathy" (if you will) landscape. And what I mean by that is that they weren't too big or too small - just right, from when you go from one turf to the next, with landscapes that gave purpose to the word: strategy. (Think of the PVZ 1 map where the zombies had to push the giant golf ball bomb or the map with the playground) The linearity and well-placed landscape features of the first game is what made those maps so fun to play on.

If anything, I think the creators should at least bring back those maps and add them into this game. Otherwise, they should at least make the maps a little bit smaller; I also think that they should make the current wide-scale maps only available for "Team Vanquish." (I find those larger scale maps more suited for "Team Vanquish" than "Turf Takeover" because of their size.)

2.) Chomper: I love'd being a Chomper in PVZ 1 because it was the most rewarding character to be! The Chomper was also a little difficult to be because she/he was such an in-close or up-and-personal type of character and whenever she/he ate someone, there was a brief moment where she/he had to swallow the zombie before taking on another one - but that's what added onto that sense of being a rewarding and worthwhile character.  Now a Chomper chances of succeeding have literally dropped, in my opinion. As I play as a Chomper, I literally take a few steps into or around the field and BAM! I'm dead. Because the maps are so large, the Chomper literally has no chance - if anything eat/bite one or two people and then your done ... respawn. Another thing I find a little irritating is the "Spike Weed." Whatever happen to when foes get hung by the foot and were lifted upside down? I really enjoyed that and thought it actually helped the Chomper a little bit.

3.) Rose character is too overpowering: I believe the Rose is a super saiyan. No one has a chance when they come into contact with one. I have died too many times trying to take down a Rose, that whenever they were close enough I literally put my controller down  because I know, for sure, I'm a goner. From the "Slo-mo" blast, to the "Goat-transformer", these abilities give the Rose the upper hand. Plus the "Rose-Ghost" move makes it so that she can literally escape attacks easier than other characters. I understand that some people may have thought that plants were a little weaker in PVZ 1 and wanted a stronger character, but this Rose is too strong. Plus the Rose's shooting almost seems as if it "locks" onto the enemy if they are in range of the shots.

4.) Spawning a garlic drone or (now, a parrot): In the first game I could easily spawn a garlic drone or floating robot head (the Engineer), hiding behind something - close to a wall or a rock. Now I need to at least take a couple of steps away (revealing my position as to where I'm hiding) from that wall or rock or whatever it may be in order to spawn that garlic drone or, now, a parrot.  Is there a way to possibly correct this and have it as it was before, like in PVZ 1?

5.) Custom control settings: Sometimes I find it a little awkward when I am trying to control the Garlic/Parrot drone or kick an Imp punt because I'm still used to the PVZ 1 controls (PS3). Maybe you could add a custom control settings for some players who find it a little troubling to adjust to the new controls?

6.) Health Regeneration: Full health regeneration, I believe, should not be for every character. It makes it so much easier for characters to kill other players off without having to rely on a spawned zombie/potted plant or a Scientist or Sunflower - so what's the point of those characters? I think this is a little too much and unfair. If this concept is something that is to be kept, at least have only the Sunflower be able to regenerate.

7.) Trees: Make some of the trees "transparent." In other words, I can be able to shoot through them and hit players. Now they seem to have like a shield around it that blocks the shots fired. In PVZ 1, I could shoot through where the leaves of the trees were and hit players ... now I can't and its frustrating.

8.) Soldier's jetpack: The soldier's jet pack height distance, I found out, is greatly reduced. I believe it is due to the changes in the size and layout of the maps. This change is something I don't really like because of those changes and now he can't reach distances or areas he could before.

All of these are just key points that I found a little bit frustrating for me because they were in the first game - and I loved PVZ 1. My major concern, however, would have to be the maps. If I could only choose one of the things above to change, it would have to be the maps. The maps are what made the first game fair for every type of character to play as and just as fun. Now they are just too big with a lot of clutter. But these are just my opinions, so I guess anything could happen.

Thanks for those who took the time to read this long message. I really appreciate it and hopefully, maybe some of these changes might even happen! Anyway, thanks again for your time!

  • You've pretty much said the same things I've been posting about the past few days. Gw1 was practically perfect to me. And really, I would have been content to just get more maps for that game than an entirely new game. The new game is def. gorgeous, but so much of what made the first one special is gone now. Including that weed issue you mentioned, which I brought up too BTW. ^_^

I would love if they would port over the older maps. Or even recreate them with the new upgraded graphics. They can do so much to improve this game to bring it on par with the first. I just hope they will.

Exactly! Glad to hear I'm not the only one! Hopefully everyone else finds this an issue and addresses it so that the more people, the better the chances of making any changes 🙂
