Well, EA assistance does not give much support:
My final message, after several e-mails back and forth:
my issue, not receiving a plant hero and a zombie hero after finishing the quests, has not been resolved. The proposed solution that EA is aware but cannot do anything except the advice to keep playing is not helpfull.
I have levelled up several times since then but nothing triggered the heroes to be released. So it seems that the only way to get these heroes is from card packs, meaning you need me to spend money to hopefully get items that should be gotten by just playing the game.
I do not mind to spend money on a game I like, but not like this.
I hope you will solve this issue soon so the heroes will be released by the game or propose another solution.

I completely understand and wish there was more that we could do in the meantime. However, since the studio is currently working on a fix, the only option we have to have you continue progressing to try and unlock the hero until the issue is patched with an update.

There should be something they could do, even if it was resetting the quest, that would be much easier than leveling up and getting nothing. The rewards for completing the subquests are not too big (gems/sparks and a pack of standard cards) to see this a s a loophole. Now I need to spend gems to unlock the heroes.
EA, please advise when this bug will be solved. This should not take that long.
