Do you need the unicorn chomper to reach max rank in pvz gw 2
I was wondering if you need the unicorn chomper to be able to get to the max rank of 5455. or would i need to go back to pvz gw 1 and grind till level 313

You need the Unicorn Chomper to get to max rank but you don't need it unlocked. My friend that doesn't have it since he had account issues with GW1 used the events where Unicorn is playable even if you don't own it to get to max rank.

As did quite a large number of max ranks who still play the game, myself included.
The time window for transferring characters from GW1 is long gone.
On occasion there will be mystery portal events that include unicorn chomper. There was a week quite a while back when the hero showcase featured unicorn chomper and Z7 imp.
