Don't disregard Butter Beacon!
I think it's caught on better now than at first when people were unhappy about losing butter barrage, but I've found Butter Beacon to be very useful, especially when specced for it or with the legendary upgrade.
Firstly, tactical intelligence should never be looked down upon. It doesn't last that long, but being able to see enemies, especially behind cover, is invaluable. Being able to see that space station around the corner is far better than being surprised by it, giving you time to prepare or get out of the way. With the change making the zombies show up purple, they stand out from the yellow aura more obviously which makes it slightly more useful too.
Secondly, it increases the damage Kernel Corn causes with all other attacks. You get a 17 point crit with the shogun guard upgrade with butter beacon. It also helps husk hop and shuck shot which can be a lot of extra damage. It's very handy against bosses.
Thirdly, while I loved butter barrage, it could hit overhead obstacles, even if you tried to avoid being near them, the path the plane took to drop them meant the butter left in an arc and could stuff you weren't prepared for, sometimes causing no damage to the intended target. I think this may be one of the reasons it was changed in BfN, it allows them to have more roofs on buildings too as they no longer have to worry about the planes above dropping butter through holes in ceilings.
I'd say to use that butter! I mean popcorn is much better with butter anyway!
