Engineer v Scientist
I played the portal event yesterday and find it funny so many people complain about Engineer being OP when ALL DAY I literally saw ZERO Engineers. I also noticed that Scientists were the top f...
Just quit out of a game as all the scientists were just ruining the fun for me. They weren't healing (other than themselves) and were simply attacking on the front line.
Issues with scientist:
- if they manage to get close to you, forget it, they will win
- If you run away or keep your distance, forget it, they have insane range and will also teleport after you
- If you get the jump on them and deal damage first, they will teleport away, heal themselves (forget the teammates right), and then come back out after you.
Of course not all scientist players play that way, and I don't really blame those who do. It is the game itself that is broken. The biggest problem right now and might force me to quit the game as it is just frustrating to play lobbies like this.

I think Scientists are MORE BOTHERSOME than a fully loaded Station in that you can avoid the big turtle-crawl-paced 4-man Station but Scientists can literally almost die, warp around 3 corners and wait for you to follow while they heal up with the sticky heal... by the time you catch them, the warps are regenerated (as is health and ammo). If you’re slightly low on health, you can‘t run from them.
They’re more highly overpowered than any non-glitching solo character in the game and YOU CAN’T escape.
I truly wonder if some devs/Popcap staff main Scientist and Space Cadet.
EDIT: autocorrect revenge
Agree completely. I actually have no problem with the Space Station. It is used the way it is intended, and there is something epic about working with other plants to bring it down. I rarely die to it, but it can hold objectives for a while. Fine balance.
But the scientist would be op as an attacker. The issue is he is supposed to be support!
Scientist is way overpowered as an attacker. He's not a great healer as sunflower but I think that was the intention to make him more versatile by boosting his attack, but his damage is just too high.
The playstyle for scientist is rather than focus on healing as a sunflower, scientists should lob a heal grenade and focus on killing the enemy, then revive any fallen teammates.
The Engineer is okay. The turret dies pretty easy. He's not great at long range. The stun doesn't always result in a kill or a safe way of escaping. The stun works IF the team can help with the kill so the Engineer requires some team play whereas the Scientist can solo many of the plants.
The Engineer can certainly be cheesy on specific stages involving capture points. The constant spam and infinite ammo while standing next to the turret can halt anyone from entering a certain area. Some people use the Engineer to spam and completely block off one of the first entrances on a Turf Takeover map.
