Failed to retrieve patch status

For the last 3 days, my kids are getting the message: Failed to retrieve patch status

They've pretty much given up on this game.  They start up the game, get the message, and switch to playing Wii U.  The first few times this happened, they persisted trying to get the game running.  Endless loop of login, failed to connect, login, failed to retrieve patch status, login. Now they don't waste their time, today they gave up immediately.

Anyone know what's going on? I can play EA NHL and other online games with no issue. What's wrong with PVZ BFN?

I'm on XBOX ONE.

    Hey @aKibbin123,

    Can you try clearing your MAC Address, and doing a hard reset on your Console?

    Go to Settings, Network, Advanced Settings, Alternate MAC Address, and Clear.

    Then fully turn off your Console for 30 seconds or so, and turn it back on.

    If that doesn't work, can you try doing a clean uninstall/reinstall of Battle for Neighborville?
