Gameplay discussion: electrical variants

Electrical variants.

Electric elemental characters use electrical attacks rather than basic attacks.

Any opponents that are hit by a electric attack will become electronically charged for a few seconds and will send out electric shocks to nearby allies which in turn will send out further shocks to additional allies. Electric splash damage varies between characters, but can go from 4 up to 16 damage. In Garden Warfare 1, the enemy intially hit will also receive a small amount of damage over time.

Electro Pea

Almanac: As the most electrifying Plant in PvZ entertainment, you can always count on Electro Pea to make a bad pun about how charged-up he is.

Has 125 health

Uses the electro cannon. It deals 20-30 impact and critical damage depending on the distance. It will also deal 10-25 splash damage. In addition to this, it will deal 16 electric arc damage. The Electro Cannon can also manually detonate itself dealing 27 damage and the aforementioned electric arc damage. 8 ammo.

For some reason he moves 15% faster than other peashooters. Not sunflower speed but still ridiculous.

Shoots bluebpeas with an electrical sphere around it.

Power Flower

Almanac:

The Power Flower came from over-tanning one day, absorbing too much of the sun's strength. This caused her to continuously vent a powerful energy.

110 health

Uses power pulse that has 40 ammo. It deals 7 to 9 impact and 8 to 10 critical damage. It deals electric 5-7 electric damage.

Power Chomper

Almanac:

The Power Chomper studied battle tactics from the Fire Chomper. He charges in on Zombies as well, but instead utilizes an electric spray.

175 health.

Uses the electric spray which fires close range electricity which deals

six to ten major damage continuously as long as it is active. The electricity arcs from zombie to a zombie. If used for too long, it will fizzle out, and you will need to wait for two seconds for it to recharge.

Power Cactus

Almanac:

The Power Cactus specializes in blasting opponents with electricity from extremely long ranges.

Her mouth has an electrical plug

Uses the electric needle which deals 15 to 20 impact damage and 18 to 24 critical damage while dealing up to 15 electric splash damage.

Electro Citron

Almanac:

Electro Citron tells people that his mask is to conceal his secret identity, but it's really just part of an elaborate grounding system that prevents him from shocking himself every time he blinks.

200 health. Electro charger 8 ammo, which is 1/3 of the maximum 24-ammo supply of the

First Charge Shot

3.5 (4 crit)-7 (8 crit)

Second Charge Shot:

50 (60 crit)-22 (26 crit)

Blast Damage: 15

Third Charge Shot:

Close-range Direct Hit: 75 (90 crit)-37 (44 crit). Blast Damage: 25

Makes static noises and glows blueish while charging.

Electrician

Almanac:

The Electrician Zombie leads the charge with his Volt-O-Blaster - electrifying Plants that get in his way.

125 health.

Volt-O-Blaster deals 35 damage with 10 electricn splash with 10 ammo.

Fires blue electric orbs.

Physicist

Almanac:

Using himself as a conductor, he likes to help free electricity from its power pole prison, letting it loose into the world.

100 health

Uses EMP frazzle launcher. It deals 22 to 30 impact and 30 to 60 critical damage based on distance; it can deal 90 damage maximum.

Electro Brainz

Almanac: "Electro Brainz' supercharged, powered-up approach to fisticuffs might just be the jolt the Zombies need in their eternal struggle versus the Plants."

200 health.

Uses electro fists and electro beam.

Punches up to five times consecutively, with each punch dealing 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 damage respectively. The first, third, and fifth punches also deal electric chain damage to nearby plants, dealing 3 damage to up to three plants each.

His beam deals 1-8 critical damage and 1-7 non-critical damage at a high rate of fire, with damage depending on the distance. The beam also deals electric chain damage to nearby plants, dealing 3, 2, and 1 damage to the first, second, and third plant respectively.

Survived getting sucked into a computer in the league of awesome storyline.

Electro pea needs to be nerfed pure and simple.

Power flower is a solid character like many of the elemental flowers.

Power chomper is good but attacking groups as chomper can be risky.

Power cactus is another solid elemental cactus.

Electro citron could stand a few buffs or changes as his damage falls off a bit too hard.

Electrician is a solid character and it like his gun is attached to a battery he carries around.

Physicist is a solid scientist but the electricity is better for challenging groups instead of 1v1's.

Electro Brainz had a glitch at one point that doubled his damage with his beam that made him up but now he's a solid character. His beam energy also forms an electrical sphere around his hand.

Electricity as a whole is better situated to fighting groups but it's a nice gameplay factor.

In bfn only electric slide had electric attacks which reduced options of gameplay styles severely and fighting electeic slide can be a pain for all the wrong reasons. I mean I never remember physicist pressing a "I win" button at low health and regaining health and ammo.

  • In general I really like electrical variants for Ops as hordes of low health enemies is perfect for the arcing damage of electricity in this game. They are of course useful against any enemies that are in close proximity, but low health targets make these variants shine.

Electro-Pea, as we discussed in the manual detonation characters thread, is OP and the most abused character in GW2. Hit it with that nerf bat!

I really like Power Flower. She has cool visual and sound effects, and her rate of fire, like most Sunflowers, is fast and satisfying.

Power Chomper is decent enough, like most spray Chompers. Not a lot to say here really.

Power Cactus is a personal favorite of mine, not my favorite Cactus overall, but she works great as a sniper that also damages nearby enemies in hiding.

Electro-Citron could use a slight buff and he's my least played Citron. I'm not a huge charge character fan in the first place, and I feel he got overnerfed a bit. He's not terrible, but is a bit of an underperformer.

Electrician needs a nerf to his AOE size. His AoE size is crazy good, I'm positive it's the largest electrical AoE in GW and GW2 as you can be farther away from the target point and still get zapped. I feel his damage is fine but that AoE size could be smaller. I don't see him all that often in matches, but when I do they tend to just sit there and lob shots into an area and reap XP. Not as bad as the turret camping engineers in BfN, but not that far off. I still like him, just feel he needs a slight adjustment.

Physicist may actually need a minor buff. He's kind of a pseudo-sniper, but isn't as effective as Astronaut (who needs a nerf),  Like most Scientists he is better up close, but I would agree that he's not the best at 1v1, unlike most Scientists.

Electro-Brainz was insane back when that bug with his weapon existed as you post. Once that was fixed, he's one of my favorite Super Brainz as he attacks very fast with his punches, and still has some arcing electricity. His beam is one of the better Super Brainz ranged attacks thanks to the arcing.

I do like Electric Slide in BfN, but that upgrade where she regens health and ammo in Outta Fight is far too good and super frustrating to face. I'd love to see the character again, especially with variants, but that upgrade has got to go.

@Iron_Guard8 Electro pea does need the nerf bat come but it is nice how all 4 og plants have electrical variants given that he was the odd man out in gw1.

All the elemental sunflowers feel the same (In a good way) in terms of damage and fire rate.

Power chomper was strangely the only gw1 chomper who actually had his stem match his head in color.

In gw2 all electric variants were turquoise blue everywhere with electricity arcing around there body and all chompers had approriate stems.

Like sunflower i don't have much to say on elemental cacti as they all seem fine, probably cause i'm bad at cactus.

Electro citron needs that buff as it seems the fall off nerf citron got hit him the hardest.

Yeah I could see electricians aoe getting a small nerf.

I can see your point in physicist but it the same moment astronaut needs a nerf.

Electro brainz speed makes him really fun to play when you dive into an unsuspecting group.

Slide should come back but her upgrades have got to go and she needs an overall rework to work with variants.
  • Time to electrify yourself and your attacks! These characters are referred to as "elemental characters" and they have the ability to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies. As a result, you will find electrical characters dealing less damage then their regular counterparts, however you can deal more damage overall if you deal the arcing electrical damage as well.

As well as dealing electrical damage, most of the characters are able to inflict splash damage as well. The arcing electrical damage will only work when the enemies that you hit are near other enemies, as the damage will spread and hit their allies as well. You will not deal the arcing electrical damage when there are not multiple nearby enemies, so you want to piriotise hitting groups of enemies for maximum damage.

Electro Pea: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your shots will deal 20-30 damage and 10-25 splash damage, depending on the distance between you and the enemy. You will deal 16 arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies as well. Any direct hit you inflict is a critical hit as well. As you are a manual detonation character as well, you can detonate your shots while they are travelling through the air which will deal up to 27 damage to nearby enemies, and you retain the arcing electrical damage as well. You have 8 maximum ammo (instead of the default 10) and deal less damage compared to the regular Peashooter.

Power Flower: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your shots will deal 7-9 damage or 8-10 critical damage, along with 5-7 arcing electrical damage, which all depend on the distance between you and the enemy. You have 40 maximum ammo (instead of the default 50) and you deal about the same damage compared to the regular Sunflower.

Power Cactus: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your shots will deal 15-20 damage or 18-24 critical damage, depending on the distance between you and the enemy. You will deal 15 arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies as well. You deal less damage, compared to regular Cactus, but the arcing electrical damage makes up for this if you can get use from it.

Power Chomper: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your attack is close range, so you must be close to your enemies to attack. You will deal 6-10 regular and electrical arc damage at a rapid rate when attacking an enemy at close range. You use a spray attack instead of a chomp, so getting more damage will pressure your enemies further. You can overheat if you are attacking for too long so be mindful of that.

Electro Citron: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. You are a charge up variant, so charge up your attacks to deal more direct and electrical damage. When uncharged, you will deal 3-7 damage or 4-8 critical damage, with a small amount of electrical damage. If charged further, you will deal 22-50 damage or 26-60 critical damage, with 15 arcing electrical damage. Once fully charged, you will deal 37-75 damage or 44-90 critical damage, with 25 arcing electrical damage. You will use more ammo if you charge further, and you have 24 maximum ammo. If at maximum charge, you will use 8 ammo. This damage is determined by how close you are to the enemy, and you will deal much more less damage if you can get in close to your enemy.

Physicist: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your shots will deal 22-30 damage or 30-60 critical damage, depending on the distance regarding you and your enemy. You want to aim for those critical hits as you will deal significantly more damage. You will still deal some electrical damage, although this will vary based on distance and how much direct damage you deal. You must get into close range combat if you want to improve your damage significantly.

Electrician: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. Your shots will deal 35 damage, which is not affected by your range, but your shots are affected by gravity. Any direct hit you inflict is a critical hit as well. Your attacks have 10 splash damage and 10 arcing electrical damage as well. The arcing electrical damage can be triggered with the splash damage. You have the same amount of maximum ammo and similar damage compared to the regular Engineer.

Electro Brainz: You are able to deal arcing electrical damage to nearby enemies that you do not hit directly. You have 2 different attacks, which are punches and a beam. The punch attack can be used 5 times in rapid succession, dealing 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 damage respectively. You will get the arcing electrical damage on some of the hits, which will deal 3 damage and can hit multiple enemies. The beam attack will deal 1-7 damage or 1-8 critical damage which is severly impacted by distance, although you will deal 1-3 arcing electrical damage as well, dealing less damage for each additional enemy shocked.

    Basic Notes

    • Use the Damage upgrade to improve the damage of your direct and arcing electrical shots. These elemental variants do not get an exclusive upgrade, unlike most others, however they are one of the only elemental variants that keep this upgrade. I recommend using it to improve the damage you can deal with your attacks.
    • Try to only attack groups of enemies, as attacking a single enemy will not trigger your arcing electrical damage and your overall damage will generally be reduced. Attacking groups of enemies will improve your damage significantly. You should only attack a single enemy if there is only currently a single enemy around.
    • You can try to shoot an enemy that is easier to hit in a group of enemies, for instance if they have a larger hitbox. This will make it much easier for you to chain your electrical damage to nearby enemies, including enemies that are normally hard to hit.
    • Depending on the situation, you may be able to hit enemies that are behind cover or around corners, if there is an enemy that you can hit that can chain the electrical damage to them. The enemy may be hidden because they are low on health.
    • If you know that an enemy is on low health, rather than attacking them directly, try to let the electrical damage finish that enemy while you deal damage to different enemies. Think of it mostly as a free vanquish.

Additional NoteElectric Slide in Battle for Neighborville is an electric character. Her attacks work in an identical fashion to electric characters, and gets some unique electric based upgrades as well.

Well, I really love the elemental characters and they are great fun to use!
